George's solo career was a meandering trail of mediocre albums with the odd highlight. He set the bar so high with ATMP that he was never going to be able to live up to it commercially or critically in the following years. By the mid 1980s it seemed Mr Harrison had all but given up on making decent music, Gone Troppo from 82 is a shocker. But with ex-ELO man Geoff Lynne’s help George managed to make one of the best comeback albums of all time: Cloud 9. Listening back now it’s very clear that the LP was made in the late 80s, with some very syrupy production and the usual JL boxy drum sound. But luckily most of the songs are so strong you can over look it and enjoy it for what it is. A great AOR album to blast out in the car, windows down, mullet blowing in the wind! It does tail off towards the end, but other wise a fine effort.Read full review
George Harrison, what can I say? One of the best songwriters, this album is fantastic and this CD replaces my old vinyl copy which I hadn't played for years. It was great to listen to it again and lots of old memories came flooding back. I have played it over and over again. Just love it!!! Recommend it to anyone, especially Beatle lovers. George, greatly loved so sadly missed.
