well out of the box I mounted the tourtech and plugged in the GPS. Set a destination and took off... worked great. hit a rain storm and kept on ticking along... I can go inside a restaurant and eat without taking off the GPS now that it is in the locked secure cradle. Love it. Yes it's older, doesn't have newest maps and is thick bit it works great, easy to see while riding and easy big buttons even with motorcycle gloves on.

It is great if you want an original GPS for your 2008 Victory Vision Touring bike. But I'm learning that you cannot update them. So technically they are absolutely obsolete. For the main highways that have been around for ever but new roads and subdivisions won't be there or show up.

I have purchased two of these. The first one had problems, which Garmin was great at finding the problem and replacing the unit. The second one I purchased for a friend worked great out of the box. The good points are it is water proof and can be used on a motorcycle, it is easily portable between automotive vehicles, just unplug, and the pillow mount stays secure from vehicle to vehicle, making it easy to move from dash to dash, or dash to floor to keep out of site. The only negative I have with the unit is there is no internal battery, so you need to have a 12 volt source. A separate power feed is available through Garmin to provide power from a motorcycle. For a portable unit, screen size works well with up coming turn warnings. I have a friend (a third unit) who has used his for 2 years on his motorcycle with no problems, this is why I purchased the two I bought. Hope this helps with your choice, I enjoy mine.Read full review
This unit is very user friendly and doesn't take long to figure out even without reading the directions. It's been very accurate so far and is fairly easy to understand. I have only 2 negatives to cite about this unit. The fact that it has no internal battery means that it must be plugged in to use it. It only offers you the "Fastest Route" and the "Shortest Route". I would like to see a "Scenic Route" offered. You can change the settings to keep you off of main highways, but that's a bit cumbersome for when you're just getting in the car and driving. That's not a huge deal, but I do miss the cordless operation.
Great System! Wouldn't go on a trip without it! This unit gives clear detailed instructions, easy to use. If you are in an area that you are unfamiliar with and would like to find a certain type store or restaurant, you can just key in to look for either and it will list all stores/restaurants within a certain number of miles. It will tell you how far away they are and give directions to get you there. It is a tremendous help when going on a trip when you are unsure of your directions. You can choose shortest distance, avoid certain roads, etc. This system has saved us a lot of miles on several trips by giving a shorter way to get to our destination. You also don't have worry with trying to watch the map on the unit. The unit has a voice system that will tell you just before your next turn, which way to turn, which road you will turn on, how far it is, how many miles to go until your next turn. If you happen to miss what the voice system said you can hit a button to repeat. If you happen to miss your turn you can just keep driving and it will direct you to either turn around or you can keep going and it will give an alternate route. The only downside is that there are so many roads being constructed that in order to keep a current map you have to purchase an updated map. They have new maps each year but you can usually get by for 2-3 years without major problems. Some of the roads will just not be identified if it is not updated.Read full review
