I had an old Garmin 310xt that was leaking water somehow and the display was fogging up. I contacted Dan and he correctly diagnosed it as having a swelled battery. I sent the watch in and paid extra for priority mail on the return shipment. I sent it off on a Monday and Dan had it back in my hands the following Monday; I really appreciated the quick turnaround. The watch is like new now.

My Garmin 310XT was down to around half of it's original battery life of 20 hours, it would die after 11 hours. I send mine in to get a replacement battery done. It came back in about a week, very fast turn around. However the first time I used it after a full charge, the watch died in 8 hours, slightly less than before I sent it for battery replacement. I can see slight nicks on the watch face cover and am fairly sure the battery was replaced. I'm guessing the battery that they used is not exactly brand new.

This GPS watch changed the way I train for races. I am a fairly new runner (about 2 years) and am just beginning to work on increasing my speed. This watch has allowed me to pay closer attention to my speed during my runs without having to map out my run on mapmyrun.com beforehand. The only thing is that the instantaneous pace is not very consistent, but I have found that the mile lap times and distance calculations are quite accurate. I have also found that the virtual partner is a good way to track your pace without having to look at the instantaneous pace if you plan on running at a consistent speed (set your virtual partner to the pace you want to keep, then try to keep up with your virtual partner). Overall this watch has given me additional motivation for running. I love it!
* The Garmin 405cx improves the whole running experience. You can plan your practices ahead, especially intervals workouts that makes your Garmin a personal trainer. The display has 3 fields in 3 or 4 different screens which you can change in a tip of your finger - the upper display is very clear but the other two are quite small and hard to track in a very intensive practice. I choose to display the pace in the bigger spot. the HR in the HR has many option and is very usefull, including online graph. The virtual partner is a great fiture which motivates you to maintain your speed and not to fall back behind your goals. the garmin connect is the big bonus of this watch and gives you all the information you need and much more from every practice. If you want to get history data like : elevation gained, top speed, hr range - you must use garmin connect and you can't have the detailed data in your watch. you can only get the basic data in your watch and the advanced data in garmin connect. be aware. The battery showed 50% life after only 2.5 hours of gps on mode. It has to be charged frequently and i believe it can last for 4-5 hours of gps on mode but no more. in power save mode the battery last 10 days approximately.Read full review
Few things I'm disappointed about. 1. the heart rate monitor is NOT compatible with the cardio equipment at my gym. We have Lifestyle treadmills and bikes, Cybex ArcTrainers, and Procor ellipticals. Pretty basic and none of these machines read heart rate. 2. AND THIS IS MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT! The calorie calculation is WAY off. Prior to owning this HRM, I've used a Polar F11 for about 4+ years. It was so beat up, it was time for a replacement. On an hour run I cover about 7miles. During that run, my heart rate averages about 155. My Polar would record 800-900 calories burned. This Garmin 405CX reads about 550. It's disgustingly low compared to what I'm used to seeing, depressing and discouraging. However, I do really like the Garmin Connect that uploads after every workout to Garmin's website showing heart rate, distance, pace, and a map if applicable. I'll be watching Polar for better GPS tracking with their HRMs. Put my Polar on a map and uploaded to a user dashboard similar to Garmin Connect and I'd be a happy camper. My #1 reason for choosing this Garmin model was to record calories and it does that very poorly. I'd return it if I could and invest in a new Polar instead.Read full review
