First the good, Once I figured out how to use it, the unit works well and gets good signal, there is a beep you can set to alert you to speed limit changes, you can also set it to show you food ,gas , hotels, and rest areas on the map as you drive. The blue tooth works very well with our cell phones and lets you talk hands free, with decent clarity. The not as good-Don't completely trust the speed limits listed, verify them by sight, they seem to be off a bit where they start and begin, some of this I am sure is because of local road changes, I have not verified this on the interstate. I may have it set wrong, I'll have to play with it, but it has tried taking me a long way around a couple of times, I need to experiment. So- all in all, it has good easy to read color definition, and the things I don't like may be my fault, however it only came with a basic how to get started piece of paper instead of an in-depth owners manual. I was however able to download complete manual, and easily update the maps online, I would have given it a 5 if it had come with more in-depth instructions with a glossary. I do prefer using it over my cell phones GPS , I don't get a data charge on this unit,,lolRead full review

Garmin makes a good line of GPSs. This one, however, branded for and sold exclusively by Walmart, comes up way short in performance. The user interface is difficult to interpret, requiring too much scrolling to access often needed operations. The on-screen keypad is particularly terrible. It registers multiple keystrokes more often than not, making inputting addresses time consuming and frustrating. The destination input section is equally lame, making too many useless suggestions and assumes that the user is incapable of inputting and exact address. And, even getting to the screen where an address can be inputted is non-intuitive. As bad is wrong directions have always been for GPSs, the new feature of leading you in a sometimes very long circle rather that suggesting a U-turn is completely awful. Okay, enough complaining. . I just don't like this GPS and I don't recommend it. Read full review

I have used Garmin products in the past. I use a Garmin Nuvi that I purchased in the early 2000's with lifetime maps and updates. And true to their word, Garmin continues to support the device with occasional firmware tweeks to keep it running. The North American maps are up to date and it still get me to where I want to go. That gets us to the DriveSmart 5. My wife's Garmin failed due to mis-handling in her car. The usb port became dislodged from repeated dropping of the device. It served us for 5-6 years so it more than paid for itself. The new Garmin was purchased from eBay at a great price. It works great. I was able to clone the favorites to it from the Garmin Express app. and update all the firmware and map files to current rev. It came with lifetime maps and traffic data so it was a win, win. Great device for an unbeatable priceRead full review

Managed an electronic store for almost a decade. Now i drive a large route for a living. Needless I have a valuable opinion on GPS's. While this unit is perfect its still a great value. Use the voice command features all day. I like that it displays my messages too. Capacitive screen is a nice bonus.
