I thought that a heater putting out 17,000 BTUs would heat a two car garage in no time. Apparently, I was wrong. I set it on the highest temp and I couldn't even feel the blower standing 3 feet away from it. Still, I gave it some time just to see if it would heat up the garage since the temp. in my garage started out around 30 degrees. I let it run for around 6 hours and I expected it to be around 70 degrees but it may have gone up 10 degrees, maybe. If it has to run even 2 hours before getting warm, it's worthless to me. (I have a insulated/dry-walled garage). Not a good heater, at least for people up north.

As winter isn't here just yet, I really can't speak to how well the heater actually works. As for value, I purchased it used. For what I paid for it, it was a good value, IMO. The 3 star rating has more to do with it being used, and that I had to do some work to bring it up to my standards.

From all the reviews I read I expected a little more heat output. I read these would heat 500 square feet very well. My garage is 896 with insulated walls and ceiling so I bought 2. Heat goes up slowly.

Heats uninsulated 2-1/2 car garage comfortably but uses a lot of electric. And if kerosene or propane fumes bother you, this is a cheap alternative to buy up front.

I’ve got a 20x20 garage in Northern Ca. Heats up in 30 minutes- raises inside temp 10 degrees.
