Gamer stars Gerard Butler as Kable/John Tillman, a man who is in prison for murder. He plays a game called Slayers (in fact he's the main star of the game), a video game in which convicts are controlled via computers to play in a killzone-like type of multiplayer battlefield. Win 30 games and you're free. Problem? Nobody ever made it to 30 games, and Kable knows it...so he plans to escape, however, upon his escape from the game he discovers that many things have changed: his daughter has been taken by child services and his wife is now a pawn for Society, a sims like type of game featuring real people. Gerard Butler offers a good performance, in fact, he was great as Kable. However most of the other actors were bad. Still it's awesome to watch any movie starring Ludicrous, he brings a special touch to certain characters. Aaron Yoo is very funny like always but this role just didn't seem fit for him. The script is also written in a funny way, it's pretty hard to understand but once you can follow the beat of the movie than it's easier to understand. The action scenes were just breathtaking, and no kidding, they were awesome! PS: The ending sucked, but the rest of the movie was pretty darn good: only problem is that the movie looks a lot like death race without the race.Read full review
Inmates on death row get a chance to fight for their escape if they take part in a "videogame" if they survive 30 rounds, they can go free. The catch? they are real live avatars for people playing the game (The "Gamers"). Of course the maker of the game is corrupt and he must be stopped by a man who is on death row, but is kind of innocent (he was brainwashed into killing somebody by the evil genius behind everything) Interesting premise where people can choose to be played or play in a real-world version of "The Sims" The movie is very loud and flashy and I loved the style of the movie, very much like "Crank" (lots of brainless action) this movie is made for a straight to DVD sequel and I personally think it will become a bit of a cult classic in the way that some Roger Corman movies from the 70's have.Read full review
Gerard Butler (300) is Kable, a convicted felon who is part of the hottest virtual reality game on the planet created by Ken Castle (played by Michael C. Hall of Dexter Fame). Kable is just a couple of games away from earning his freedom and release back into society after winning more games than any other player in game history. Only problem is the powers that be do not want him to get out and reveal their secret. (Sounds a lot like Running Man doesn't it?). The movie has a lot of very good game type special effects, lots and lots of blood and gore and has a very good story as well. Additional Cast Members Include: Amber Valletta, Logan Lerman, Terry Crews, Ludacris and Kyra Sedgwick Its a pretty good movie and anyone who plays games will love it.
This movie was recommended to me because I love action movies. It had a good concept but was lost from the beginning. Just a lot of fighting and shooting. Story line was a bore!!
