I have an Audix i5 mic that is very good when I mic my amps for a performance, but it's fairly pricey. I was looking for an equivalent mic when I came across the GLS ES-57. This mic is supposed to be very similar to the industry-standard Shure 57. I can't attest to that as I've never owned one. However, it compares very favorably to the Audix I already own. I used it to mic my amp during a concert a few weeks ago, and it worked very well. I would compare the sound quality to the more expensive Audix at a fraction of the price. And, I got a mic clip a 25-foot cable and a bag for the mic at a price I was happy with. I would recommend this product.

I needed another mic for recording instruments ....mostly low wattage tube guitar amps. Its main use is in my small studio man cave. I read a lot of the reviews about this mic and others as well. I knew the sm-57 quality as we used those in bands for years. I just couldn't bit the bullet on the price for my application. This seemed like a good alternative. It does not come with a case or one of those zipper bags....just a mic and a stand clip. No biggie...I have a multi-mic case. The sound quality: this mic performed well into my tascam dp-01 fx 8-track recorder. For the price I'm very happy so far. But I am using it in a studio setting.... Road use my be a total other gremlin. If I get bored with its response at some point I may through some eq on it. I like it and I love the price. Remember.....try different mic placements..try a room mic ...so many possibilities. Ive been playing guitar for @ 30 yrs. Wow I'm old. The home studio thing is new to me ....but its great to create.Read full review

Used mic on a custom made snare drum. Had good quality sound. I will try mic out on lead guitar next. Updated. I used on lead guitar and the sound quality was better then I expected. I thought I would have to EQ, but didn't have to touch EQ. I would recommend this mic.

I bought these to use as drum mics hoping for a cheap alternative to the Shure SM57 and I"m not disappointed at all, I really like the EQ curve they have , very natural sounding , with recording drums I've always had a hard time getting good hi hat and cymbal sounds , these make my cymbals sound awesome , they seem like they're built very well , a very good weight to them , I was afraid to buy these at first because of the comments of handeling noise other reviewers have made and although there is some noise it's way less than I had pictured in my mind , compared to the SM57 these have a little more upper midrange tone , when a/b-ing them the SM57 has a more scooped midrange tonality , so far I've done a scratch 8 track recording with electric guitar , bass ,drums with two overheads ( I saw a vintage Led Zeppelin video and saw they were using regular dynamic mics for overheads and thought about trying it )and one in the kick drum and one used for vocals with a pop filter in front , I was hoping they would sound good enough to use my "good" mics to record drums and use the GLS mics for scratch tracks for the drummer to follow the guitar to get a good drum take and then re-record the guitars with my "good" mics , well I now have 3 new mics to add to the "good" mic list because the recording sounded great , even the vocals , now I"m not saying they sound like a U87 but I have a Studio Projects C-1 condenser mic I usually track vocals with and I had no thoughts in my mind that I needed to re-record the vocals or any of the tracks because of using a low quality mic , I am Very impressed with these mics and would recommend them to anyone.Read full review
My experience with this microphone has been nothing but great. Before I bought this, I used an SM58 for my guitar cabinet, and while the sound was good, it (of course) had a tendency to give the signal a kind of distant, rounded out sound on my recordings. Now, I am NOT a audio head; I just know what I want to hear, and what sounds good. Everything I need to know is pretty much been shared on the internet as to how to get there, and when I saw the price on this mike I figured I could use it 'somewhere' live, in my setup. But I've been able to get such a more focused, clear, higher resonance quality sound from my amp cabinet with this mike! I've not had that kind of great sound on my recordings lately, and here it was in this unidirectional model that compares on par with the Shure SM57. I know it does, because I have lots of chances to use live rigs set up with 57's and Sennheisers, CADs, etc. This mike is on par with those mikes and IMO, is a better one to use if only for the price alone! I'm really glad I found these guys on eBay. Thumbs up!Read full review
