After seeing The Bass Whisperer's review of the L-2500 on YouTube, I decided that this bass had to be mine. It has two MFD humbuckers, a master volume, and a two-band EQ; there's a 3-way pickup selector, a series/parallel switch (affecting the individual pickups rather than their combination), and a passive/active/active-with-treble-boost switch. Upon testing the bass, I found that it was just as versatile in practice as it is on paper. Every switch combination is distinct and usable, and I find that the switches are much easier to use than the knob-only array typically found on basses. These pickups are literally the loudest pickups I've ever dealt with; even after lowering them to accommodate slap, they were still loud as hell. The controls definitely help one to tame the beast, however. My only complaint is that in order to totally avoid hitting the B string into the pickups while slapping, one would have to lower the pickups enough to waste their tone. I've managed to adjust my technique, though, so even that isn't horrid. Typical G&L quality fit and finish. A must-have!Read full review
I randomly got an old g&l 2000 years ago. I remember being blown away with how it sounded and played. Foolishly I sold it. Now a little bit older and wiser, found its Asian made cousin. I waited patiently and scored a beauty. People know Fender and Music Man. They kind of forget Leo Fender had a 3rd company, G & L. I can get this bass to give me the growl and cut of a music man or the smoothness and warmth of a J-bass. It does a lot of tones and does them all exceptionally. Its light with the swamp ash body and comfortable to play on those long gigs. Love the maple neck with the tobacco burst finish. The last gig I had, my bass player friend charged the stage to find out what i was playing. Said it was one of the best tones he has heard live. Are there better basses? Sure. For the same price point? Not a chance.Read full review

Got this for a backup to my high end fretless 5. Bargain price and good reviews, I had to work the action a little (too low, needed more "pop" without grounding to frets). Really like the dynamic effects by switching passive/active options, nice big sound all around. I'm looking forward to trying some processor options - it has a different enough sound from my main squeeze I'll prolly use it on purpose some!

This particular bass, is the working mans bass !! Hands down !!! It is the cleanest cuting bass I have ever played over my 30 years of being a bassist !!! I own boutique basses as well as collectibles, this bass can dial in all of their sounds without being muffled. And at a fraction of the price. American made parts, one piece swamp ash body and a 6 bolt neck. The pickups are clean and as punchy las Tyson!!!

I'm not sure if there could be a better bass than this one - you might have different preferences, there might be different sounding bass but as far as quality - it's top of the line.
