Notes
From the Biggest melting Pot in the South, comes the funky melting pot music of 'Funky Mustard' . Houston Texas breeds em different, and these guy's are the perfect example of different . From musical style, to musical languages ... These guy's seem to be trying their best not to be classified in any category . Trust me, you will be hard pressed to put them in just one genre, if not 4, or five . Born from the partnership formed by Kevin Crenshaw, and Larry White . Kevin on Drums, and Larry on lead vocals, and Guitar's . They are the byproduct of a couple, of different local Cover Bands from Houston. Both of their self-taught styles are evident in their playing . Never following any rules laid down before in Rock Music . When asked what category they should be placed in, Larry say's with a smile 'It's all South Texas Rock to me Man ' . Gardner Headrick on bass, add's hard rockin' rhythms to every song . His method of attack, and sustain bring's the rhythm to a solid foundation. They consider themselves a Rock Band foremost, but don't be surprised if you hear some 'Toot's & the Maytals', or 'Jaco Pastorious' seeping out of this rock solid Band. Recognized as one of the best new bands coming out of Texas. These guys really do bring a song to life, with several different mood's to pick from . Songs to wake up to like 'Nine Mile', or that perfect driving home song like 'Heysoos'. Prepare to be taken to an all new music zone. It's all about the Mustard ... Funky Mustard that is. Bubblin' crude and pure rock that is steeped in the tradition that has your soul rockin', like the masters of rock . Much like the Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Jethro Tull, U2, and AC/DC. Rockin' and Rollin' on the cutting edge. But, I want to know if your gonna leave any Mustard in that jar? I dig the sounds boys, keep the fire burning. Please remember, I always like it when you go down to Nawlins, especially like back in '67. - Jeff Kelley - FM 90.9 KTSU - Jazz in all it's wonderful colors I really dig Funky Mustard. Larry combines unique, modal chord patterns and hypnotic rhythms that pull you in and surround you. His songs tell big and little stories that are real life experiences . You can¹t help plugging into these emotional, musical poems . The mention of H.R. Puff-n-Stuff in the song Hemisfair recalls a happy, but scary encounter with the TV character from his childhood . Listening to the Mustard, you become infected in the same way, taken back to the same setting, the same wide-eyed state of mind. This music is a doorway into the magic. Spread it on thick. - Rock Romano - Rock Romano's Red Shack Recording Studio, Houston, Tx. Larry White is a prolific songwriter. Interesting lyrics and unusually thick chording makes some strangely wonderful music. The stories Larry tells in his songs frequently remind me of Dave Mathews in style. I was blown away by the bands maturity while attending the release of their new CD, 'Alma del Fuego'. The addition of Kristen Jensen on violin takes their music beyond Rock, more into a Cirque du Soleil thing with teeth. These guys have arrived, and right on time. I think in the not too distant future we'll be hearing other performers playing some of these Funky Mustard songs in their shows. Keep up the great work gang. - Frank Cupal, Owner/operator F&S Productions Houston,TX.
