This under-appreciated Steven Soderbergh comedy is one of his best—and most avant-garde. The director, who likes to make big-budget movies like the Oceans 11 series to finance his more experimental work, constructs a complex mobius strip of movies within movies. Julia Roberts is an actress playing a journalist in a glossy Hollywood movie (shot in glorious 35 mm) within a documentary about "real" folks who work in Hollywood (shot on gritty video). David Hyde Peirce and Catherine Keener are excellent as a couple with marriage problems. And Brad Pitt makes a cameo in yet another movie within a movie, directed by David Fincher. "Take 49," the director says. When Soderbergh walks by, he has a black box on his face. This movie is an entertaining and candid look at the Hollywood creative class.
Mediocre movie with all star cast. Expected more with plot of fame, fortune, unfaithful couples, in the middle of life changing events. Loss and death very expectedly teach the lesson that Love is all that really matters. While an excellent lesson not portrayed with the passion of learning this lesson I would have liked. Still, interesting enough to watch once.
Funny movie. Thank you so much
