I am a genealogist always looking for new sources that might provide information about my early Texas ancestors . The book addresses the Texas State Troopers (TST) . One of my great great grandfathers was a TST Home Guard / "Frontier Defense" member charged with protecting early settlers from hostile Indians . The book explains how some troopers were absorbed into the Confederacy . There are wonderful maps showing the various Forts and their relations to each other . One ancestor survived the Warren Wagon Train Massacre near Ft. Griffith on May 21, 1871 . The book Frontier Defense in the Civil War gave me a better understanding of the lingering Indian attacks . This book is a "good read" and an excellent resource and reference book if one had Ancestors in Texas during these dangerous times ..Read full review
