This will actually be my third time buying this game, the other times i got rid of it because my playstation 2 broke. This is a very good strategy game that will entertain you for quite awhile. The graphics are far from Xbox 360 and PS3, but even for the PS2 they look great for the most part. It plays on the classic Turn-based strategy system, as seen in games such as Civilization and Final Fantasy Tactics. It also has the same "Grid Movement" as seen in both of those games. There are a lot of customization options for you wanzers, or better known as mechs, such as rifles, smg's, shotguns, rockets, backpacks for items, and more. You can even modify their body parts! such as legs for mobility, torsos for defense and better weight so carry better weapons. You can even get arms with attached assault rifles! There is just an endless supply of customization. Now for the cons... Some of the enemies are way too hard. Many can hit you from most places on the map. They either have incredibly long range or near iron defense. But luckily these types of enemies are far and few between. Another semi-con is the lack of money in the game. While you can take little training missions to get more cash it doesn't earn you much. But again for the most part you have enough to upgrade when necessary, just save up money until you unlock better parts and you should be fine for the most part. Overall I would give this game an 8/10 simply because when you do get stuck its hard to get unstuck, but the rest of the game makes up for that. I highly recommend this game to anyone with a PS2 that likes strategy games. -CrackZombie613Read full review

Very engaging story, a bit more to offer then the 3rd entry of Front Mission for PS1...

If you are a fan of the Front mission series, strategy RPGs, compelling storylines, or just mechs in general, then pick this game up and play it. While Front Mission 3 is by far my favorite in the series (PS1), this game holds it's own and is one of the best games on the PS2 platform. As is to be expected from this series there is deep customization of the wanzers (mechs) the two teams you control throughout the two campaigns that are happening simultaneously as you progress through the story. The story is also excellent if you are interested in war, espionage, ethical and moral decisions being weighed, and interesting characters reacting to and trying to puzzle out the goings-on in the beginnings of an international conflict. If you don't mind a little grinding in between missions, then this game is an excellent addition to your library.Read full review

I haven't had a chance to play FM1, 2 or 3, but I don't really think you need to play all those to have fun in the fouth FM, becasue this is basically a stand alone game (just using the FM name to sell). The game start off pretty slow, it's trying to explain what button you should push and how everything work, but once you are familiar with all the setting, you are ready to play. The most important thing about this game is to position your people at the right place and at the right time. So far, I can say this is one of the best RPG game I’ve ever play (on PS2 of course). This game deserve a 5 from me :-)
