This was a great book. After seeing the 'Julie and Julia' movie I decided I wanted to check out the 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking' book. They are selling for so much right now. I read that the 'Julia Child's Kitchen' book was considered by many to be her best cookbook. So I purchased it thinking it would be fun to try some recipes. I love to cook, and am a very good cook. Most recipe books give exact measurements of every ingredient. Julia Child wrote the book the way I like to cook- with suggestions of substitutions, and additions to many if not most of her recipes. One can tell by the basic, yet rich full flavored tastes of her recipes that the influence is French. I'm a Frugal cook, and had much appreciation for her suggestions for substitutions and her conscientiousness toward cost savings. It is a very well written book for both beginning cooks, and experienced ones. She explains things simply with out going on and on that would be easy for anyone to understand. I would recommend this book to anyone that has an interest in cooking. I bought it for my daughter and a friend as well as myself. It's a fun and intriguing read. 503BluebirdRead full review
