having recently joined the lads in norway, i needed to find out more about the whole movement and what i had gotten into. i still can't say why i joined (the nosey/curiosity factor played a part if i am totally honest)but this book keeps the reader engaged, it is informative (without giving the game away) and is kept light hearted enough to bring a smile and giggle to your face. it does exactly what it sets out to do, it keeps it simple (stupid) (k.i.s.s.). an awful lot of crap has been written in the past by both masons and anti masons, i am no expert on masonry but to anyone who has more than a passing interest (nosey parkers etc) your girl friend, wife, best mate or whoever, then this book covers the historical side and brings you bang up to date and gives you a clear idea of what is involved in masonry. finally if your loking for sensationalism, tabloid trash, world domination, expose etc etc its all here but put into context and leaves you to make your own mind up about the drivel that grabs the headlines. its a dummies book, that should be enough recommendation enough in itself and the author (christopher hodapp)certainly gets a big two thumbs up from my myself........(i don't know if thats a secret sign of the lads yet!)Read full review
This series is excellent in its format that explains the most rudimentary aspects of a topic without making the reader feel like a dummy. That said, this particular book puts out a lot of data in one place from which even a Freemason of 20+ years will learn! I recommend this for anyone wishing to learn about the fraternity, especially those thinking of joining. There are several "ah-hah!" moments in the text without spoiling any of the ritual for the uninitiated.

As a Freemason I am very pleased with the content of Brother Christopher Hodapp's book. He explains ways and means and the ins and outs and the truth and myths of the mysteries of Masonry. I recommend this book to all interested in the craft. I use this book as a teaching tool for new candidates.
I like reading and keeping quality books in my personal library. Your books are great for that purpose at amazing prices. thanks!

I always thought of myself as "the great scholar of freemasonry" however this book gave me a BIG reality check. What I like most was the fact that you don't have to read it like most conventional books(front to back). I do however would have liked it to have more information on Latin American and Black Lodges and how they impact the Craft today. I think this would be a great book for any mason or non mason looking to find out more about Freemasonry
