I NEVER see this offered on TV or Pay per view. Best Elvis movie with a real story that is sweet and entertaining. Less focus on girls and bikinis and music.

FOLLOW THAT DREAM is one of the most overlooked of all the Presley movies. Elvis handles the role of this hillbilly hick deftly and with flair. But make no mistake about the lead character. He's no country bumpkin. In fact, Toby Kwimper has it all together by the film's final reel. This part gives Elvis a chance to excel at not only comedy but drama as well. You will howl as Joanna Moore repeatedly attempts to get into his pants, and Elvis' only recourse is to recite the times table to occupy his mind! And just wait until you get to the courtroom scene and Elvis is forced to defend his father's honor. The love he shows for his pop will bring tears to your eyes. And check out who plays the Judge; it's Roland Winters who played Elvis' dad in "Blue Hawaii" a year earlier! In Elvis' performance, you see the wasted potential right before your eyes of this fine actor. Did I mention singing? Some nice tunes dot the film as well as and of course, "Follow That Dream" which became one of Elvis' most remembered songs over the years. All other performances are right on the money including a fine turn by actor Arthur O'Connell (who would again join Elvis a few years later in "Kissin' Cousins") as the father of the homesteading Kwimpers. Beautiful Panavision color make this movie shot on location in Crystal River, Florida a joy to behold; right up there with "King Creole, "Jailhouse Rock," "Flaming Star" and "Viva Las Vegas" as one of The King's best. This widescreen DVD transfer is a winner from start to finish. Check it out! It's sure to become one of your favorites too!Read full review

One of the finest Elvis films of the sixties is this good-hearted romp about a small group of travelers who make their way into Florida, only to have their car run out of gas. With nowhere else to go, Elvis and company settle down and the results are absolutely amazing. Elvis stars as Toby Kwimper, a young man with a naive charm and a good nature about him. Arthur O'Connell is Toby's father, Pop Kwimper. Lovely young actress Anne Helm plays Holly Jones, a teenager who resides with the family but is very much in love with Toby. There is a fine supporting cast, as well. Alan Hewitt makes a perfect foil as Mr. King, a state represenative who tries to get the clan off the property. Joanna Moore is Alicia Claypool, a state welfare supervisor who takes a personal interest in Toby's welfare. Jack Krushen and Simon Oakland are brilliant as two small-time gangsters who set up a traveling casino next-door. Overall, this is a great movie that will appeal to all members of the family and to Elvis fans everywhere. Songs include "What A Wonderful Life", "I'm Not The Marrying Kind", "Sound Advice", "Angel" and the title song "Follow That Dream". A well-produced cinematic classic from the king of rock and roll.Read full review
