Foghat had fragmented after its heydey passed. Roger Earl had his version of the band and Lonesome Dave had his. Rod Price was sitting on the sidelines and not participating in either of his former mates efforts. The 1994 reunion of the original members is highlighted by this disc. There are new originals and new workings of some older covers. The album also includes some acoustic versions of songs with some very tasty slide work (would you expect anything less?) from Rod. You might not think I Just Wanna Make Love to You would work as an acoustic song, but give it listen....I defy anyone to tell me it doesn't stand on its own merits. The album is solid and fresh. That may sound strange as they abandoned the attempt at remaining current and returned to their roots on Boogie Men. However, that is what they did best. Rock - in your face rock 'n' roll tunes with no apologies and it works. The album is full of promise and potential. Indeed they remained in that format and continued touring through 1996. They released some of their best live recordings during this period on DECADES LIVE. The Millenium Tour DVD is immediately following this period which included a great job by Brian Bassett filling in for Rod after he made the decision to leave the tour. Dave continued touring with that lineup until he became too ill to continue. However, RETURN OF THE BOOGIE MEN is what made that productive period possible. Rod and Dave are no longer with us and we are the poorer for the lack of their company. This recording is a treasure in that it makes us remember how much we loved them and how much they gave to us.Read full review
I'm no rock journalist so I'll just tell you what I think. This is a great one-shot reunion studio album from 1994 with all the original members [never to happen again , the guitarists & vocalist have since passed on] , it came out at a time when the Cd buying public didn't care for this kind of music so it was unfortunately overlooked , it would fit right in today with the classic rock revival that sports new albums by The Allman Bros. Band & Johnny Winter , even The New York Dolls! [all great albums too]. The boys are spot on , everything sounds just like you want it to , if you were a fan of the early Foghat records [Rock and Roll , Energized] or the Savoy Brown albums these guys are on [Blue Matter , Looking In] you will love it. Hard to get on ebay so snatch it up when you can.
Foghat was the best Boogie Rock Band in it's hay-day

What you'll get with this release (after roughly 10 years apart) is classic Foghat material remade as well as a whole bunch of really outstanding blues covers. This is the kind of cd that you can put on during a party and a bunch of people will inevitably ask you "Man, who is this, this cd has a great groove and it sure rocks!".
Great album but a little pricey
