The game's story focuses on a group of young mercenaries who are drawn into an international conflict, and seek to protect the world from a sorceress manipulating the war for her own purposes. The main protagonist is Squall Leonhart, a 17 year old loner and student at the military academy Balamb Garden, who is training to become a "SeeD", a mercenary paid by the academy. Final Fantasy 8 is a real must have for anyone who likes the Final Fantasy series. The story is very touching and has a lot of plot twists. You have a junction system where you can use GF(Guardian Forces) to unleash powerful attacks upon your enemies as well as the use of magic while equiped with them. There are limit breaks and even a card game called Triple Triad(although its not required to play it is pretty fun especially since you can get cards from turning monsters into them via the GF Quezacotlz's Card move which the GF can learn. Honestly I think it is a game worth more than what I paid for it because it is such a wondeful game. If you don't like it for PC they also have it on the original Playstation. I never could get into the PS version of it but then again I am really, really used to the computer controls. Take care and Happy Gaming!Read full review
Final Fantasy VIII is simply one of the best games I have ever played. What stands out here isn't sounds or graphics, or even necessarily gameplay, but the storyline. The story is amazing; the plot is great and the character development is handled brilliantly. Graphics--I hear complaints about these all the time. This game is from 1999. It's almost ten years old. Get over the graphics. For a game that old, the graphics are quite good, actually. The cinematics (of which there are many) are beautiful, and may as well have come from a game two years ago. Sound--I also hear a lot of complaints about this. It does sound like it came from a cheap MIDI piano, but then the tunes are decent. I've played the game without music, and believe me, the music adds a lot. So the sound is good enough. Gameplay--Confusing at first, but you get a handle of it and it's decent. The GFs are annoying, though. You must watch these 'summon' type attacks over and over and over and over without skipping them. You generally have to use them too, because your characters are so weak. This is probably the biggest flaw in the game. But then everything else makes up for it. Five out of five.Read full review
Final Fantasy VIII, although not one of the most popular ones, is one of my favorites. You can fall into the character right away, and the story keeps going to places you never saw coming. The romance and tensity makes for a great and compelling venture through the world, and the combat system rewards your work. Interactive limit breaks! If running this game on a newer system (Vista and up) make SURE to check for patches and fixes. They are a must to make it perform like it should.
SquareSoft has always had a sure-fire hit when releasing any of their Final Fantasy titles, and Final Fantasy VIII should be no exception. The basis of a good RPG (role-playing game) has always been the story; spectacular graphics are secondary. Final Fantasy VIII's involved and interesting story line is filled with great twists, well-developed characters, suspense, and romance. As an added bonus, the graphics are beautiful. Everything--from the low-lit jazz club to the steam-filled railroad tunnels--is gorgeous and perfectly sets the mood and tone of a scene.
