If you have clicked this far you hopefully have the basic lowdown on the Pro-Tube Vibrolux Custom Reverb (with the cool white knobs!), so I'll be brief: I am in my mid-fifties and have gigged practically every weekend since I was 12. I've held a union card since 1977, so I guess I'm a serious pro. I grew up in the "Blackface" Fender era and that has always been my Holy Grail of tone. I own a Blackface (original) Vibrolux Reverb and Deluxe Reverb as well as a Brown Vibroverb reissue (converted to Blackface specs) and Deluxe Reverb reissue. I play blues, jazz, country and classic rock, and I find Heavy Metal asinine and laughable, so that's where I'm at. This amp has no channel switching, no built-in effects, no computer-modeled preamp channel, no effects loop, no master volume, no midrange knob...Well, you get the picture. It has 2 channels (normal and bright) with two inputs per channel (input 1 is 6db hotter than input 2) on each channel. What it gives me is the most dynamic, responsive musical instrument I've ever played. I hate the buzzy, fuzzy distortion found on most "metal-style" amps and pedals (I find I lose a lot in attack and definition when I stomp on a box), but I LOVE the power-amp distortion and speaker break-up on early Chuck Berry records (check his P90s sound on Maybelline and Johnny B. Goode, recorded before Chuck got humbuckers), and the classic Clapton "Beano" tone is my idealized distorto sound. I can set the volume on this amp on about 4 or 5 and it will do whatever I want it to do. The two channels do sound slightly different from each other, and switching from input 2 to 1 results in a good deal more volume. Roll the guitar volume down and kiss the strings, and the sound is sweet, very polite and refined but with plenty of pop. Dial the guitar volume up and smack it like you really mean it and the amp will howl like a lost soul. I generally use an Ibanez Power Trio, which is an '80s piece with a Tube Screamer, digital delay, and stereo chorus in one AC-powered unit. Just for laughs, on my last date (4 hours in a 250-300 seat club) I just went straight into the amp (with a George L.'s .155 cable, thank you very much). I missed the delay on a couple of the Rockabilly tunes, and the distortion could have made some of our Skynyrd and Stevie Ray things a little more crunchy, but I was really loving my tone all night long. So to recap: I am hopelessly old-fashioned, all I want from my amp is one thing and that is perfect Fender tone. I like a sound I can control with my hands rather than with knobs and buttons. If you are an inexperienced player, especially a metal teen, you should probably look elsewhere for your dream amp. If you have been playing long enough to have developed a sense of touch on the strings, and if you are a fan of REAL CLASSIC TUBE TONE, I would give this amp my highest recommendation. For some reason the reverb is not as "boingy" as on my other vintage amps, but it's pretty good, and all the Fender clang, grain, and killer tremolo are there in abundance. The tremolo does click while the amp is idling, but this is not noticeable when the band is playing. I got this rig at a great price on eBay, but my wife (who is also my bass player) paid it the ultimate compliment when she said it would have been a bargain even at full retail price. I absolutely LOVE this amp.Read full review
I love this amp. With my Telecaster, it sounds exactly like the bright and crisp mid-60s. Lots of headroom and built in vibrato is great. No distort/dirty channel, though. You'll need a pedal for that.

been playing guitar for most of my life and i've turned a lot of knobs. this one has been my definitive favorite! my only critique of it is that it makes my other knobs look drab by comparison. but seriously, fit correctly on the shaft of the pots in my fender twin and matched the others well.

An excellent amp! Not too big or small and priced right. It sounds very similar to my old Tremolux with smooth tone and enough power to satisfy multiple venues.
I love this amp. Great Fender tone Great crunch when you hit hard, cleans up nice backing off volume of guitar . Some hiss is noticeable but manageable. Nothing a Good mod kit couldn't resolve. Easy to carry, loud enough for a medium club
