I bought this guitar based on the reviews. As many of you out there, I was looking for that unmistakable strat tone. I like Eric Johnson but I wanted to have a single coil guitar that can do SRV also and maybe some other sounds. Did not have the oportunity to try it beforehand, so, I was a little nervous. Anyway, after two weeks of playing this guitar, I am convinced that I made the right decision, this guitar is simply fantastic sounding! It's so easy to play and confortable. I use it with a Marshall JVM215 combo with a MXR compressor and a TS808, it sounds so clear, you can hear all the notes and the crunch is perfect. I can use the orange channel of the overdrive mode on the amp, it sounds almost the same but the fact is the sound is the one I was looking for. Tried to duplicate that with an Ibanez with a push pull switch to make single coil from humbucker - forget it. Tried a Highway one - forget it. Same goes with a Fat Strat. I mean it's ok but the EJ does it so much better! It's just something that makes you want to play forever. Beautiful sound! Guitar is built like a Custom Shop (it's not cheap but it doesn't take an arm and a leg). Details are fantastic, quality is fantastic. It is setup with the lowest action I ever saw on a guitar and still doesn't have fret buzz. I love it and I will keep it forever, it's a winner!Read full review
OK... let me preface this by saying I have owned a total of about 40 different strats over 20 years of playing. Currently own 8 strats (couple American Deluxes, HWY1, Sambora, etc.), a Les Paul Traditional, a PRS 513 10 top, a Chandler Metro, etc. I want to put that out there so you know that this review is coming from a pro player with 21 years of playing experience, not someone who has gotten their first 'good' guitar. First, the drawbacks... the pickups are not nearly as high output as some people like. They are very subtle. If you sweat alot, the nitro finished neck will probably get on your nerves a bit. Now, for the pluses... (1) It plays amazingly well. Like, it feels like a well worn pair of shoes or jeans. It just feels incredibly comfortable and easy to play (2) The tone - this thing NAILS the vintage strat tone while still having a nice full quality of a modern strat. Put a little boost in front of your amp with it and it absolutely screams and breaks up real nice on a tube amp. (3) Tone knobs are wired to the bridge and the neck pickup. Never had a guitar with this before and totally love it. As in, I have modded my other strats to be this way as well. It's the way I think Fender SHOULD have done it. (4) The fit/finish/etc. are incredibly well done by Fender. If I did not know better, I would have sworn this was a masterbuilt or a custom shop strat, not an artist series production model. Mine is in Candy Apple Red and I love it. My other strats are getting jealous though :-)Read full review
This is the best Fender you will find short of going custom shop. Why do I say that? Because I feel this Fender was made for me. Even with .10's it has super low action. It has a wide 12" neck but doesn't feel like it. If you're accustomed to a Gibson Les Paul Standard with the 60's neck, this guitar will play great for you -- except it feels better than that and has more diverse sounds. It plays like a Fender! It does have some classic vibes about it but it also has new things that allow you to express yourself in new and exciting ways. Beautiful polished maple neck. Perfect intonation, perfect set up. Staggered classic looking tuners. It can give you that Hendrix or Clapton sound but it's not designed for that. It will give you a vast array of new sounds!
This is such a beautiful instrument. The electronics and the workmanship lend itself to a tone that stands alone. The neck is a work of art. Playability and tone. This one has both.

This is one of Fenders best strats in quality and tone with solid neck, all the right parts and easy to play. Alder body is light weight with 50's profile , my personal favorite .
