What I did not like about this movie is for one the title because it doesn't go well with the movie. Another thing I did not like about the movie was how quick they got through it. You don't know whats the real story is in the movie as they keep moving to each of the characters, and never really staying long with one characters scene before moving on with the next character. The movie was foccused on the last year of high school for the characters, and lots of things happen that could shape the rest of their lives, but it doesn't really get into any of the characters situations that happen in the movie, and your left thinking am I suppose to feel sorry for this character, or hate them. What I did like about the movie was that it was made in the 1980's, and its fun to see how things were then because I was to young to really remember the 1980's. The movie had Phoebe Cates in it, and she was a good, but not great actress then, and some of her scenes were pretty funny. Her role was of the supportive friend to what seemed to be the main female character, and she was great in that role. Phoebe Cates was the reason why I decided to buy this movie because each of her characters she plays often enough gets you laughing alot. There wasn't any big movie stars in the movie which is good because then you get to follow the other actors, and actresses without wanting to see the big star. I recomend this movie to others who like to see high school comedy before American Pie, and for those who like to see Phoebe Cates as well.Read full review
Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Just thinking about the film now makes me relive my High School days all over again. This movie was to High School students of the 80's what Dazed and Confused was to High School students of the 70's. This hilarious comedy about the lives of students from every walk of life during a typical 80's High School year is a MUST have part of any film lovers collection. I saw this film when it was first released in 1982, and it is still as funny now as it was then. In fact, I refuse to watch this movie on TV, all hacked to bits. I will only watch it in it's true rated R form, which is why it is really unsuitable for children below the High School age to watch. I believe this movie captured some of the true essence of what it was like to grow up during that era. If anyone wanted to know what it was really like to grow up and go to school in the 80's, then Fast Times at Ridgemont High is the perfect film to suggest, despite the fact that some parents would, of course, deny some of the activities that are portrayed in the movie... no doubt to relieve themselves of some deeply hidden guilty pleasures. Watch this movie!!!Read full review
Great story; great acting; a must have for anyone's collection. It's also neat to see some of the theatrical debuts of performers we all have come to know very well on the screen and appreciate their work...namely: Sean Penn, Eric Stoltz, Phoebe Cates, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Judge Reinhold. (A perfect cast for this movie.) Anthony Edwards and Nicolas Cage make cameos very early in the movie. Next to ANIMAL HOUSE, simply the BEST!! No problems with this one, Bud! A MUST SEE.
This is one of the best movies of all times from any body that grew up in the 80's. It is easy to follow and the story line is great as well as the chemistry with all the actors, many of who whent on to be big name stars. It is nice that they had a DVD release of this movie even though an HD version on blue ray would be cool (don't know how they do it but I seen it done with Close Encounters and it was amazing). Even if you have never seen this movie I highly recomend it you will like it no matter how old you are. Don't get me wrong this is not a movie for young kids to watch as it is pretty raunchy even for movies now, but not any raunchier than Super Bad or Wedding Crashers.
What can I say, then "Dude Totally Awesome", great performances by Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cates, Judge Reinhold. Also, check out the director's commentary on the movie, learned more on the movie making aspect and more on the characters and how they evolved. I am partial to these types of movies but I like these coming of age movies with the comedy edge thrown in. I gave this an excellent rating because I laugh my @@#$^ off everytime I watch it. Don't take my word for it, watch it yourself.
