A sturdy piece of kit, some time required to setup but once ready is easy to use. I have read reviews about the sole not flat etc but mine was perfect I checked with a straight edge and it was flat in both length and width. Only gripe is the iron had a crack on one side, at the edge which is completely through the iron. It is visible from 3 sides (see photo for the crack). The iron required honing prior to use but this is expected

I was stuck for choice, the number 6 or the number 7 jointer ? I have the 3, 4 and 5 which I find to be excellent planes very competitively priced, the 7 was tempting but I concluded that the 6 was about as big as I would ever need, I don’t build huge projects and I’m unlikely to ever be re skinning a De Havilland Mosquito. I received the plane within 24 hours of purchasing, this alone pleased me no end. Sadly, the iron had been incorrectly heat treated, I mentioned this to FFX and again, in less than 24 hours, a replacement iron had been dropped off by the postman, that caught me by surprise as I’d taken the rear handle off for reshaping, something I do to all my planes, they fit my hand. The sole needed minimal attention to get it flat, the cheeks were square to the sole, in fact the hardest part was sharpening and honing the iron as the tool steel used is pretty hard. I did of course pay particular attention to the chip breaker as this was a new iron. In pretty short order I had an excellent plane with a decent amount of weight, which helped glide it through some pretty nasty oak that I had. Conclusion, once again Faithfull came up with an excellent plane that will not only last my lifetime but a few more if it’s cared for by whoever owns it after me. Read full review

It isn't beautiful but it is good in the right places. The sole is flat and the handles are decent. It needs a couple of hours of work to get it to perform well - the painting is really sloppy, the chipbreaker needed its contact surface flattening, the tote screw needed shortening a tiny bit and some sharp edges need softening. Probably less work than restoring an old Stanley and less than half the price.
