I had seen this edition of Frontline, but because I was distracted I missed some things. What first caught my attention was that the assumption that fingerprints are unique is apparently erroneous. A guy in Portland was arrested based solely upon a partial fingerprint that was recovered at a bombing site in Spain, a country in which he had never been. It was later discovered that another guy was responsible for the crime. But when it was pointed out that the “experts” that often appear in criminal trials are not certified by any scientific standards, I was really floored. One of the staff members of the broadcasting team was certified as a crime scene analyst after paying $600.00 and passing an open book true/false examination. She has had no forensic training, but now can testify in trials about matters about which she knows nothing. One of my interests is the criminal justice system, in which without adequate legal counsel, one is almost certain to be convicted. But without scientifically reliable certification of the “experts” that provide the evidence upon which juries rely, there is no possible chance that justice will occur. I recommend this highly.Read full review
