The competitive Bouton, called "Bulldog" in his big league career, here spins a true tale of his quest to save Pittsfield’s historic Wahconah Park in Massachusetts. Serious and self-deprecating and with eyes that perceive key details, Bouton is a big league author as well.

Being a kid who attended ten (10 pack G.A. ticket package) Seattle Pilots games in 1969, I've read Ball Four too many times to remember. Ball Four reflects a "good ole boys' mentality. It's a pretty lame account of "beaver shooting" and other sophomoric MLB player behavior. Nothing in Ball Four illustrates the hardship on young wives and their children having to uproot and move (sometimes across the country) to other minor and major league cities because their husbands are only marginal players that are easily tradable. This written account by Bobbi Bouton and Nancy Marshall is an insightful look behind the scenes of Ball Four. If you're a Ball Four fan, this is a must read.
