Has some features that make it ideal for the novice builder, and some that make it a challenge for the Experienced builder. The "General Build" is "layered," like an onion, meaning that successive layers hide seams and joints very well, keeping putty & sanding to a (very) bare minimum, making it, very generally speaking, an "easy build," provided you carefully trim and test fit before final application. And the parts are very well made to fit, so trim and sanding is, at WORST, very minimal. However, all the external detail "piping" is very thin and delicate; you can easily break it removing it from the parts tree, and getting it aligned and glued on is finicky work calling for patience, and a steady hand. Having said that, the final result is a very beautiful, very detailed Y-Wing, ready to be painted and decaled as suggested, or modified/customized as you desire. In conclusion, Fine Molds really came through with this series of kits (not just the Y-Wing!), producing a good looking, detailed, reasonably easy kit to build and finish. I rated it as "durable," but will advise some care/caution in handling the model after it is built; that detail "piping" can be delicate, and will NOT take much abuse (and by "much," I mean none at all).Read full review

Most people will disagree, yet I find this to be a better representation of the studio model found on screen than "it's competition"
