Prior to watching Farmhouse, I was a bit worried, seeing as this was director George Bessudo and writer Daniel P. Coughlin sophomore film after their debut with the terribly bad Lake Dead. Farmhouse is about an extremely down on their luck couple (Jamie Anne Allman and William Lee Scott) who haven't exactly had the best year ever. Thanks to Scott's gambling debts, ensuing loan sharks, and the death of their sickly child, the couple gives away all of their possessions and take a road trip to Seattle in order to start over. Their bad luck continues when they crash in the middle of nowhere and take refuge at a nearby farm ran by married couple Steven Webber (always good to have in a horror film) and Kelly Hu who are a bit odd at first, but then prove to be very deadly and sadistic as they stalk and torture our protagonist couple throughout the night. Interwoven throughout the movie is the couple's sad story of how they were driven towards starting over, which gradually becomes more and more clear as the movie goes on, thus leading up to a rather unexpected (silly, but unique to say the least) climax that definitely changes the scope of the film. As a whole, Farmhouse winds up being a very unexpected surprise. The biggest surprise is the well-versatile and seasoned actors who are (gasp!) actually good. Next, while the body count is very low, the feeling of dread and terror is prominent throughout. Rest assured, when the blood, torture, and murder does make an appearance, it's all worthwhile (let's just say I'm now terrified of cheese graters!). Our filmmakers look to have taken alot of notes on the criticism that Lake Dead received and completely utilized it to deliver an engaging and very entertaining second film. To my surprise, Farmhouse is a definite winner. I can only hope its popularity will grow, because it definitely deserves it!Read full review
'Farmhouse' seems like a typical horror movie. City morons venture into the middle of Nowhere,USA and suffer dearly. But, this movie ventures up a few steps on that particular ladder. The ending is surprising & cool, but not jaw-dropping. I would think that people who enjoy movies about torture would be the ones whould take the most pleasure from this modest film. There is a scene involving a cheese grater that is hard to watch. But, it seems like that is what people want to watch these days. 'Farmhouse' brings to mind such movies as the "Saw" series & the two "Hostel" films. Steven Weber is great. One of the few problems w/it is that, for some reason, Kelly Hu thinks of herself as a sex symbol.
Farmhouse is a psychological thriller set in the modern day mid-west. We follow a young couple as they leave their everyday lives behind and head out to a new beginning; starting over from scratch. After becoming stranded in an isolated Wine Vineyard in the middle of nowhere, the young couple is forced to face the secrets they're running from, all the while trying to escape the malicious intent of the Vineyard mysterious inhabitants. Good movie for late night when NOTHING ELSE IS ON and I mean NOTHING... (Mrs puman)
Edge of your seat show. Worth watching.
