In this sequel to the best game of 1997, Interplay and Black Isle came together to create a great improvement on the original while still maintaining the overall scope and integrity of the story and game play. Fallout 2 is everything Fallout was and more. The story continues with the player character being a generation descended of the original vault-dwelling character in the first game. He/she has been chosen by the village elder to undergo a temple of trials to determine if they’re suited to find a pre-war piece of technology known as the G.E.C.K. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit) so the chosen one might save the village from certain destruction in the wasteland. How does it compare to the original? The mouse-driven isometrics and turn-based battles have been modified slightly, but are ... The mouse-driven isometrics and turn-based battles have been modified slightly, but are virtually identical to the original. Players still manage the inventory in a special interface, but it’s not as clumsy. There are a lot more side quests, more items, and more back-story to experience. It has the same character development with a few minor modifications, and music is a little more memorable. This game just does everything a little better. Where does it excel? NPCs are actually useful. More than that, players actually manage their inventories. They wear armor and they gain levels. They’re a little sensitive about shooting the main character in the back, but not so much with other NPCs. Also, they get rather sensitive if they are shot accidentally. Upon the slightest PC-NPC friendly-fire injury they may go ballistic. Players can move NPCs out of the way, so those reloads when pinned are no more. Perfect! There are other memorable enhancements, including an abundance of useful NPCs that don’t require “movie-mode” interaction. More realistic game play is achieved when the party is affected by the main character’s karma. The world is larger and there are many more achievements to be had. Ever want to be a porn star? How about a boxing champion? Also be on the lookout for many more cult-references and amusing random encounters. Playing the game today has a few drawbacks. Gamers still can’t select screen resolutions or color depth, something that is sought after a lot in today’s gaming world. Make sure the game is patched to it’s latest version before starting a new game because saved games in previous versions are incapatable. There are bugs that the patches don’t fix and as a caution players should save frequently. Those minor problems aside, Fallout 2 is a gritty adventure which allows players to be as good or as bad as one reasonably could be while still completing the primary objectives. Actions taken in the game directly affect how the ending is portrayed, giving the game limitless replay value. It is possible to go through the game several times and still feel like there has been a unique experience, dispite certain parts of the game objectives being required. The nature of the character development system is such that a character can be crafted into just about any gaming style one would choose. This is something that is still sought after in RPGs of today and often finds lacking. When it came out in the fall of 1998, Fallout 2 set some standards for good gameplay and immersive story. It improved on the original in all the ways it needed to. All the improvements will have PC RPG players playing the game multiple times to experience the fallout.

I am bored of all the cookie-cutter games. Ever since Black Isle went out of business, this type of RPG game has faded away. It's like a Baldur's Gate, but with a sci-fi setting and a dark sense of humor. Somehow, I missed this and its prequel back in the 90s. A friend recommended it so I picked both up on eBay, and I am so glad I did. The basic premise is that there was a nuclear war, and most people dies or became somewhat mutated scavengers. A lucky few survived for generations in underground vaults. When one of them breaks down, they send a warrior/scientist out to find some spare parts, and he or she gets wrapped up in all kinds of plots and sub-plots. Along the way, there is an awful lot of shooting and bloodshed. That's the premise of Fallout. Fallout 2 is similar, but the ... I am bored of all the cookie-cutter games. Fallout 2 is similar, but the character is a descendant of that original warrior/scientist, again on a quest to find some technological item to save his people, and along the way, he gets deep into evil plots, and a bunch of people ask him to do random quests along the way. Like any of these RPG games, you can turn down the quests, but why? It gives you XP, you find better weapons and armor, and it's entertaining to see what the programmers came up with. So your path is fairly guided. But the story is fun, and it is very entertaining for me to blast my way through hordes of bad guys and mutant creatures. I like the spirit of fun through the whole thing. I also like how it can be saved and put down for a while if real life intrudes. I like the quests, the level of difficulty, and the array of weapons and skills. I dislike the graphics, obviously. This game was made in 1998, so don't expect to be blown away. It wasn't top of the line then, either. But I'm not a graphics-loving person, so that's okay. The only time that comes into play is when trying to find an item to pick up or use that's vital to finishing a quest, but it's so hard to see because the graphics are just average. The other thing is a common complaint in any of these games, that sometimes the order of quests and missions gets a little messed up, and there is an assumption that you are taking every quest and have done so in the correct order. But overall, it's a 5 out of 5. A lot of fun, and if you have any appreciation at all of games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape:Torment, Neverwinter Nights, or Grim Fandango, you'll like this.

A True Survivor...
Today's games are all about the newest and most impressive graphics, a year or so after the "newest" game is yesterdays news. Fallout 3, and new vegas are two game that aged very rapidly(although fun, and repayable). Fallout 2 is not only the most popular game in its series, but one of my all time favorite games. In Fallout 2 a player is able to do practically anything they wish to do, a complete upgrade form the original game. The graphics are dated, but i personally never feel a loss of quality and enjoyment. Some reviews attempt playing the game for their love of the two newer games, and hated this game for having horrible graphics. If you are a person that wants fast paced and constant action this may not be your game. Although considering the price there is not reason one should ... Great Game, Must Own!
I cant say enough of whats already been said many times, Fallout 2 and the Fallout series in general are just great games. Taking your created player and diving head first into the retro-futuristic world of an apocalyptic America that was frozen in the 1950's mindset, with the addition of advanced technology. I wont say much as far as story goes because learning it in-game is far more rewarding. Fallout 2 did its predecessor right by improving the game play and graphics and also adding the next chapter of the Fallout universe in a way that was true to the first one. One of The best games around
The graphics aren't the newest thing around for the Fallout 2 game but this game lets you do many differant things and most of them are connected like if you do something in one of the towns enough you will be labeled as whatever you did and that can affect what you can do throughout the game for the better or worse like becoming a boxer can make your hand to hand fighting skills better there are also somethings like walking in a radioactive cave then growing a 6th toe later on that keep the game intresting Fallout 2 has alot of replayablity too I've played it about 10 to 20 times so far just to see what I could do the next time.The game doesn't need a great computer to play on either because the graphics aren't zoomed in close to the charactor and you are looking down towards the ...
