This lens surprised me with how well it works for less than $100.00. It is very light weight making it a perfect walk around lens for people like me who take their camera on vacations and on the airlines when traveling. I bought it to take with me everywhere and I don't have to worry that it will get stolen or broken. Now, I can relax totally and enjoy traveling again which is something I love to do. I have had some expensive equipment stolen by airport baggage personnel. They no longer allow you to lock your valuable camera gear because of terrorism. This lens will not disappoint you if you purchase a used flash like the SB-400 another great performer for less than $100.00. This lens goes in my carry on luggage a few ounces. I take my AF-S 18-55mm along also and that covers anything the 80-200mm can't do, it is also light weight and both lenses use 52mm filters. I take a Tiffen UV, ND3 and a Polarizer filter. My friends thought I was taking my pro gear when traveling until I told them and showed them my camera travel bag. The bag weights less than 10 lbs and no longer has to be checked into baggage. Hopefully, this information will help you to plan your next vacation.Read full review
This lens is an excellent quality Nikon lens. Pictures come out fantastic. The only problem with using it on a newer DSLR is it does not have it's own auto-focus motor built into the lens. If you want to auto-focus, you have to use a camera that has the auto-focus motor in the camera, not the lens. Other than that the optics are quality Nikon glass. Some other problems, the lens is made of plastic and there is no VR on this lens. But, what do you want for $35.00. Check the DSLR model before you buy this lens to make sure it is compatible with your auto-focus setup.
