This is quite a handy little reference book for diseases and common conditions. Apparently designed for use as a layperson's reference book in the medical office, I've found it quite helpful in everyday life and in my transcription studies. The book is excellently bound with pages that lie flat without having to "fold open" the book deliberately. This is good because the book will last much longer without its falling apart. The book has very informative, high-quality pictures to supplement many diseases or conditions. I like the fact that the topics are printed on the outside edge of the paper. Just use your thumb to hold the book and you can flip through the pages and locate the information quickly without having to look everything up in an index. Each condition/disease includes the following information: *Description *ICD-9-CM Code - Of Particular Note About This Section: Detailed information is often given about coding specific diseases. "ICD-9-CM Code 590.80 (Unspecified) Pyelonephritis is coded according to site and type of lesion. Unfortunately this was not the book that I needed for my class, I was actually looking for Human Diseases but I ended up with the correct book eventually.
