En el presente libro se describe el desarrollo y caracterizacion de un escaner tridimensional que reconstruye digitalmente la forma de objetos solidos en rotacion, utilizando la tecnica de triangulacion por proyeccion de una linea de luz laser. La tecnica de triangulacion consiste en proyectar una linea de luz, generada por un diodo laser sobre un objeto solido, se adquire la deformacion de la linea sobre el relieve por medio de una camara enlazada a la computadora y la informacion que proporciona la camara se procesa para la reconstruccion digital. En la etapa de procesamiento se lleva acabo la obtencion de la informacion relevante de las imagenes capturadas por la camara, las cuales son representadas como datos numericos para ser empleados en el algoritmo matematico de la tecnica de triangulacion y finalmente obtener la reconstruccion digital en 3D del objeto. Para el desarrollo de los programas computacionales se emplea el software LabVIEW de National Instruments. En la actualidad las aplicaciones del escaner tridimensional van desde vision para robots, verificacion de piezas industriales, modelado de peliculas animadas y videojuegos, entre muchas otras.
