I have played the game "Eragon" for the PC. I have also played alot of other games of a similer nature so I know what I'm talking about. Yes, the game was fun, for a few hours at least. The graphics are ok, nothing too astounding, but no details in the landscape were overlooked. Overall, a very "pretty" game. The cut scenes for every finishing move were impressivly done, but did get anoying after a while. The storyline was a complete let down. I had only read the books (throughly) before playing the game so I was greatly dissapointed when the game didn't follow the story originally set down by the author at all. Later, after suffering through the movie, I realised that this was because the movie did the same thing. The paths through the levels are very restricted. There is only one way to do anything. I ofter ran into invisible walls where my charactor simply stopped moving seemingly for no reason. The auto aiming of the bow, magic, and calling of the dragon was not a good feature. This just restricts interaction further. The battles are drawn out and the boss fights are easy but long. On a lighter note, the over all experience of the game was very addictive in a way, it kept making me just want to do "one more level" or "collect one more hidden egg". The only reason I'm writing this review is so people have a chance to see the other side of the story. Getting on here and seeing three other people greatly praising a simply average game just struck me as wrong. It's not a perfect game. It's not a horrible game, but it isn't perfect.Read full review
I enjoyed the Eragon books immensely - mostly because they seemed very familiar, what with most of the premises 'borrowed' from numerous other authors; still, an enjoyable read. Saw the movie, another terrible port to the big screen of a decent book. Peter Jackson shoulda done it. The game follows the storyline of the movie, which is is only real mistake. That notwithstanding, VERY enjoyable and addictive, and riding the dragon is the best thing since cotton candy! The game is very linear, so don't expect to go off the trodden trail much like in WoW or Morrowind; it plays more like a first person shooter in that regard. And the only other downside is that this is an Xbox port, so if you have an Xbox controller you'll have MUCH better control than with a keyboard. A pity there, as a keyboard has SO much more control in most games. And yeah, they did dumb the game down for the Xbox, where as if it had been originally made for the computer it would have been infinitely better, but, STILL, very fun game. Especially if you play it all the way to the end. And the scenery is freakin' awesome! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY the GAMEGUY!!!Read full review
I don't know what some of these complaints are about. This is just an awesome game, no question. That last guy had it right - use an Xbox controller for best response. I've played it through like 4 or 5 times now,and still enjoy it better than WoW or those clones. Dragons ROCK!
I bought the game because the price was good, they wanted $45.00 bucks in the stores. I haven't seen the Movie, but I wanted to play the game. I think it is good. You have to look real good to find your way out sometimes to go to the next level. It really makes you think. I don't dislike anything about the game.
My review title says it all. Fun game, much like the books in most regards. And I agree with some of the other reviewer, an XBOX USB controller makes it easier to play than with a keyboard (my normal preference). Still, all in all, a fun game!
