Way too many guitars in the sub- $400 price range look like Stratocasters and seem to be produced by many different brands. This Epiphone one is unique. I have the Alpine White "Wilshire" reissue limited edition electric guitar by Epiphone. This is a beautiful guitar with nice attention to detail such as the carved head, inlays on the fret board and the finish all around including the back of the neck. The tuners at the top and the stop at the bottom are nice and strings remained tuned well. The two humbucker pick ups produce better tones than other guitars in the entry level price range ($349 new). The neck is set into the body and I notice this connection is weak. Will little effort, I can change the notes played by pushing the neck forward, or backward. This has been noted in other reviews for this guitar. Works fine for regular playing but stage monkeys may need to go easy on slinging the guitar around by the neck. Out of the box, I had to adjust the bridge to get correct notes at the "12th" frets. This was easy to do but should have been perfect from the factory. The neck is a lot heavier than the body so I bought a grippier guitar strap to try and keep the guitar leveled to my preferred position. Every time I let go of the neck it would drop down a bit. I had a slight buzz on the 5th string (A) at the second fret. Had to file the frets down slightly and raise the bridge up to eliminate the string buzz. This reduced my "action" but the strings remain close enough to be playable. BOTTOM LINE I thought the "Limited Issue" factor might bring in additional value down the road but Epiphone has a hot seller with this guitar and production does not appear to be "limited". Excellent choice for a cheap guitar that does not look like a Stratocaster which was my main pull towards the Wilshire model. Will need some work out of the box but should be good for anyone at any level after a professional set up.Read full review
This is a decent guitar for the money. It has crappy strings & action out of the box. The pickups are meaty & have a good tone. I like the ability to use split coils. I am having the frets crowned & polished which will make a huge difference in the action. I have had several gibsons & epiphones & I know you can get awesome action out of these guitars, but you have to do a little work to get them there, so no biggy. It will take a little work, but it will be a good guitar when I'm finished. Also, the finish is awesome on this guitar & I really like the block inlays.
Have 3 of them all unique and different but love every one of them
