Author Biography
Roody REBARTHELEMY Barthelemy was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti where he has taught French literature and Social Sciences as a secondary school teacher for several years before immigrating to the United States around the late 1980s. For more than twenty years, he has worked for the School District of Palm Beach County as a translator and interpreter, a multicultural trainer, and an ESOL teacher. He is an original member of the School District's Translation Team to which he has served as a leader in many instances. During his years as team leader and multicultural trainer, Roody has participated in the training of more than 400 school-based community language facilitators. In addition to being an educator and a translator, Roody has been a published writer. He has presented at the national level on the issues of community translation and interpreting at the American Translators' Association 37th Annual Conference in San Francisco, CA. He has contributed several articles with international and local publications such as Haiti-Progres, Kreyol Connection, and The Palm Beach Post. An essayist and a poet in his spare time, Roody was also acclaimed in 2011 a Poetry Contest Laureate in Fort-de-France, Martinique where he was awarded the Prix Coup de Coeur at the 3rd edition of Caribbean Creole languages Poetry Contest organized by Asosyasyon Kalbas Lo Lakarayib. Currently, Roody is recognized by the State of Florida as a certified court interpreter. As a professional translator and educator, he counts more than twenty years of experience serving in the languages of English, Haitian Creole, and French.
