This is the 6L6 powered, chrome faced version of the amp. Two channels with shared EQ,(only downside in my opinion), and bright and depth buttons that effect both channels. Excellent clean channel...far better than I anticipated and would work well for everything but Jazz. The distortion is absolutely wicked and can be mild or wild, but is really best when being applied to very heavy rock or metal music. Great articulation no matter how much gain is used and has a very fast attack and tight low end. This is amp is a reat choice for anyone who plays hard rock or heavy metal and likes an amp with a naturally mid-scooped sound.
I bought the Engl Fireball-100 used off of Ebay. it had quick delivery, but didn't come near fast enough. lol!! i have been playing for 25+ years and been chasing tone for most of that time. i have owned marshalls, mesa, VHT, randall you name it and have alway wanted more out of my amps. i am not a distotion pedal or overdrive user. i feel if the amp can't give me my sould them i don't need it, after all that what the pedals are trying to to is sound "LIKE" an amp. the FB-100 is by far the best i have tried so far! it needs no boost and delivers all the gain you need and then has plenty left over to spare. the clean channel is crystle clear with loads of headroom. i thought the shared eq would be the only down fall, but its not. the amp is perfectly balanced and doesn't need a third channel. its dark, rich and full. the mids are strong and driven. best mids i ever heard. the low end is amazing. it pushes right thru you. i was playing a 5150 before the powerball and there is no way i could go back to it. the built in noise gate is better than any stomp box noise gate i ever tried. if you are on the fence about getting this amp, JUST DO IT!!!! its worth its weight in GOLD!!!!!!!Read full review
I’ve been playing ENGL amps since the early 90’s, the fireball 60 is by far my favorite in the offerings. The only disadvantage from this simple setup is having a shared gain knob, but it works for me.. the amp has a great FX loop, monster gain channel as well as a good clean...recommended for rock to metal...lastly, in my opinion the 100w version of this amp is a stiffer feeling which is cool but not for me.
