I have long felt that the performance by Lou Gossett, Jr., was scandalously overlooked by those who picked the Academy Awards nominations for the year "Enemy Mine" came out (1985). Gossett was chillingly convincing as the alien Drac, especially at the beginning of the film where his voice production and reptilian movements were the culmination of Lou's obviously extensive preparation for this physically and emotionally demanding part, His performance, I am sure, became a seldom-equaled model for actors (and make-up artists as well!) portraying bizarre aliens in later movies and TV series, such as "Star Gate SG-1." It was an obviously superior performance which should have had at least an Academy Award nomination. As for the storyline, without giving away too much, the gradual breakdown of the deadly enmity between the Drac and human, Davidge (well played, often with justifiable passion, by Dennis Quaid), forms the entertaining crux of the movie. To my taste, the last part of the movie is somewhat marred by several moment of gruesome violence, but I must admit it provides a contrast to the exquisite and moving final scene of the movie. Note that this last scene needs to be viewed in a wide screen version, because the "pan and scan" version infuriatingly truncates a gloriously beautiful part of the wide angle view. Fortunately, this DVD is such a wide-screen version and is a much better quality replacement for my old pan-and-scan LaserDisk of this movie. Highly recommended..Read full review

I remember watching this movie as a kid at a family get together and all of us were in the living room with our snacks and this movie was playing in cable either HBO, Showtime, The Movie Channel, or something like that. The lights were all off and the parents were on the couches and us kids were on the floor front center stage hogging up the main TV action. This movie was one of the best Sci Fi movies ever next to Alien. The cheesy special effects were great, the way the film was shot with all the perfect angles and soundtrack and just the ambience of the film caught my eye and I was emotionally caught in the movie within five minutes. It is a dark, moody, and emotional film yet with good action. The way Dennis Quaid "Davage" narrates this film is awesome and it works. For classic 80's Sci Fi Films this is a great one to pick up. I love it and it's in my top 10 Classics. Five Stars!! *****Read full review

this is a good science fiction flick from 1985 that didn't receive the praise it deserved. I have viewed this movie more than once and decided I wanted to add it to my permanent collection. It is not a tale that is action packed as are many movies about outer space. Rather this is a story about how two very different beings from two very different backgrounds who come to understand one another, work together, trust one another, and become friends and allies. Yes this is a touching story that puts many action laden science fiction movies to shame.

I’ve always loved this movie and glad to now have it on DVD. It’s your typical 80’s sy-fy, but has lines in it you will forever repeat!

Enjoyed watching this again after many years with my 10 year old. He loved it. Lou Gossett Jr. kills the alien part. Played the disc on a machine with TV Guardian and there were a good many silent spots. Unnecessary profanity in such a good entertaining film.
