Text is clear and specific. Photos--and there are MANY--are excellent. Anatomical drawings are excellent and very helpful. All exercises are described VERY accurately, including what NOT to do or how NOT to do it. Great chapters on routines, diet, injuries. Index is HUGE and easy to find what you're looking for there. An old copy like this is just as good as one publshed yesterday. Some things never change! I keep it by my weightlifting gear and refer to it VERY often. This book IS an encyclopedia. This book is geared towards "free weights" not fancy exercise equipment. If you like the clang of metal weights and getting down on your hands and knees to change the poundage on the bar, this is the book for you. This is not a book for yuppies, but it is a book for ALL ages and ALL body types. And best of all, it's VERY inspirational. It helps you build YOUR body, not look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. I've had my copy since about 1982. Read full review

Really good read but book was pretty beat up, my original copy was in better shape and I bought it 34 years ago. The binding on it was coming loose but the book wasn't torn up. This is the only reason this copy was rated at 4 stars.

Therdis a lot of good information in this book for the beginnung bidy builder. The book reads easily and quickly for its size. I do wish Arnold went into more detail in some sections as this will feel like review of the basics for most people who are already into body building. Overall, good book!

This is an excellent book on bodybuilding. It has hundreds of photos, exercises, and thorough explanations of many, many bodybuilding topics. The updated version of this book is, in my opinion, not as good because it features photos of more recent bodybuilders that have taken many more performance enhancing drugs (steroids). Therefore the photos are much more "unnatural." Whether you are an amateur bodybuilder or a pro, this book is a must have.
Great book that really teaches a lot about the sport, it's history, and all the exercises to build any isolated muscles. I had a copy of this book for years, then gave it away to a friend. It was pretty worn. With patience you can find one here on ebay really cheap and in good condition! Many great pictures and illustrations really make this easy to understand, and the many pics of Arnold do more than inspire to hit the weights!
