January 8th, 2010 marks what would have been the 75th birthday of the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley. RCA, his long-time record label, have put together this extraordinary 4-disc CD set entitled "Good Rockin' Tonight", released in time to help commemorate the historic occasion. It covers every area and aspect of his complete career from 1953 to 1977. Starting with the glory days at Sun records, it begins with his very first recording "My Happiness", followed by the 2 sides of his first commercially released single "That's All Right" and "Blue Moon Of Kentucky". The set goes through the early RCA releases such as "Heartbreak Hotel", "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Love Me Tender". Continuing on to his army days, we are treated to such hits as "Blue Christmas", "King Creole" and "A Big Hunk O' Love". Also included are his cover recordings of the #1 hits, "(Now And Then There's) A Fool Such As I" and "Are You Lonesome Tonight?", both of which were his only singles to be nominated for the Grammy award for Record of the Year in 1959 and 1960, respectively. A fine variety of songs from the 60s are also featured: "Crying In The Chapel", "Return To Sender", "Viva Las Vegas", "Big Boss Man", "Kentucky Rain". Going through the 70s are songs such as "Burning Love", "Always On My Mind", "Promised Land" and "Way Down". The set even includes the 2002 release "A Little Less Conversation (JXL Radio Edit remix)", which became a worldwide smash during the 25th anniversary of Elvis' memorial. This is a great collection of Elvis music from the early days onward - around 100 songs total. Some of the earliest ones are mono and not recorded very well, reflecting on the technology of the time, not the quality of the CD. I'm glad I picked up this collection.

I highly recommend this box set. It's celebrating Elvis' 75th birthday. You can't get any better then this. All the selections are Rockin' hot. Go out and buy it and add it to your box set collection. Enjoy it.
Had to give up my vinyl collection a while ago. This set helped replace some favorites. Definitely a great buy. For true Elvis fans or to convert new ones. Superb.
Purchased it for my wife's birthday, she loves it. The price was lower than any other place I looked.
