The compressor/sustainer concept for many of us is a mystery. If you watch You Tube on the subject most guys will say so. This pedal makes it simple to use and get a sound that is useful. You can discover your own applications, use it as a boost, just leave it on the entire time to create your sound. I've used it on my acoustic when I need to play solos. Basically it evens the volume between your high and low strings and by increasing the Sustain knob and changing the attack you get all sorts of variations. I can get a tight punchy sound for my electric. There are more complicated compressor/sustainer pedals out there for those who like to mess with settings but I don't. Remember, as you increase the Sustain the volume drops but you then can compensate with the volume knob. It's very quiet for this type of effect.Read full review

This pedal is a little noisy but all comp pedals are. This is a more squishy comp pedal. I use this pedal essentially for a little lead boost. I turn the comp almost all the way off. It's nice to have a little boost for my lead but that's it. I use the black finger tube comp and it's much more smooth and a more usable pedal. They missed the boat on this pedal. If you gotta have a comp pedal don't get this one.

Electro-Harmonix pedals really make using effect pedals fun again! This company has always made affordable stomp boxes for the guitarist or bassist of every level. My first E-H pedal was a Big Muff Pi. In the past, the pedals had the tendency to be cumbersome and noisy however. The footprint of the newer "Nano" line of E-H pedal begin around the same size as the average MXR pedal (which has become the standard in many ways). Better than that, the company has worked hard to improve its original designs making them quieter and much more transparent without raising prices into the stratosphere. If you are into pedal mods, these babies are incredibly easy to mess with. I have purchased the Soul Preacher Compressor for how musical the compressor sounds. It is a very open and natural sounding when used correctly. I am replacing my MXR Dyna Comp which works well on some of my guitars but not the others. The "knee" switch (fast/medium/slow attack) is an interesting feature which increases the usefulness of this pedal greatly. I am looking forward to getting this pedal on my pedal board.Read full review
I own a bunch of Electro Harmonix pedals and I love them. If you're the type who likes to tinker with a group of pedals, rather than an all-encompassing effects processor, then I highly recommend the EHX Nano pedals. They fit well onto a pedal board and have durable, rugged metal housing. The Soul Preacher is a great little compressor for those looking to add a little body and maybe pump up the level. I've basically dialed in my settings and now I run everything through it all the time. Your sound is a very personal thing, so I can't tell you you'll love what it does, but it does what it does very well.
Works as expected and a good value. This particular compressor has a lot of gaiin and provides secondary adjustment on the circuit board which has a big effect on overdrive and distortion. The control is touchy and not addressed in the manual. I recalibrated mine for unity gain with the outside control at 12 o clock. This provided s cleaner compression with far less “dirt”.
