I have been fascinated with the disaster films of the 1970's (Airport, The Towering Inferno, Poseidon Adventure) since they came out. If you like this sort of movie you won't be disappointed. Something about the timeline when these movies were filmed and the stars who played in them make them extremely entertaining. The remakes just don't ever compare to the original films even with the technology of today. The only thing lacking is the bonus features, as they didn't include any of the expanded footage from the made for TV extension of the plot. I also thought they pushed the sensi-surround and that was not noticed as you probably need to watch with a sub woofer and heavy bass to hear the difference. Great cast with George Kennedy, Chuck Heston and Lorne Green. Greene plays Ava Gardner's father which could only happen in the 1970s, as he was only seven years her senior. Victoria Principle, Walter Mathau, and Richard Roundtree round out the star-studded cast. If you haven't seen this movie in a while or have never seen it, do yourself a favor and pick up this DVD.Read full review

Blu-Ray quality transfer for this film is excellent. The picture is sharp and colorful. The sound is crisp and clear. If you have a decent sound system the sensoround is effective. Best I’ve heard to date regarding the sound regarding this title. I already had an earlier copy and was disappointed in the quality. This was definitely what I was hoping for. Good job !!!

I am collecting movies that portray disasters that involve nature. Even though this movie is quite old, it is still fascinating as to the implication of a massive earthquake in Los Angeles, a total possibility. I will watch it again and remember some of the actors are no longer with us.

The 1970's were the golden age for big movie disaster flicks such as THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, THE TOWERING INFERNO WHICH WAS THE BEST OF THE LOT. Then EARTHQUAKE WHICH WAS RELEASED IN SENSURROUND. In the theater where I saw EARTHQUAKE they cranked up the Sensurround and it was wonderfully frightening. The good old days.
