Great album by a mid-career Elvis Costello. The music here's a little more down to earth, much less frantic than his Attractions days, but no less personal or well-written. Songs like Brilliant Mistake, Indoor Fireworks or Lovable are some of the best things he's recorded. The 1995 Rykodisc issue includes some good outtakes, including the ode to waitressing Shoes Without Heels, and a disc of live material, recorded at the Broadway Theatre in 1986. It's not essential, but fans will enjoy it.
Has many Elvis Costello songs that I had not heard before

King of America is a great disc brimming with excellent Elvis tunes. His songwriting is strong and the backing musicians are great as well. I like the title track, "Indoor Fireworks", and "Brilliant Mistake" the most but there are no real klunkers here...
