I bought this because I remembered seeing it when it first came out and I wanted to own it, however there were several things I noticed that were lacking. Despite this being a 3 disc set, many scenes from the soap opera I saw, were missing. You were watching one scene and all of a sudden it took you to something else that was happening. I also noticed that the music in the background was not the one they played in different scenes when the soap opera was released; I thought that was a huge mistake with whoever put this together because many of us who watched it would've preferred to see it like it was originally broadcast and hear those songs again; also the scenes froze every so often and you had to wait and pray they would start again; extremely careless on whoever put this together. The story takes place in Vera Cruz where a young woman from an aristocratic family falls in love with a man that fathers her child but disappears. When he learns she's pregnant he wants her to have an abortion and when her own father learns his daughter is expecting a baby, he's consumed with what people will think trying to appear moral before others eyes and vows the child will die. The daughter is taken to a ranch and her nanny who's a black woman accompanies her where the child is born. She makes the nanny swear that if she sees her child in danger to flee with him and later get in touch with her. The nanny does just that the night when she has to fight with a man that's about to kill the child about to carry out the orders that the grandfather gave. I never believed the nanny was 100% innocent because though she saved the child when he was about to die, why did she have to put him in situations where he suffered so much knowing his mother told her to get in touch with her later on? She later admitted she didn't want to give him back so because of her selfishness he struggled from the very beginning. Through hard work they were able to make ends meet and when he got older he became a doctor. When he found out the man he was treating was his grandfather, he readily forgave him. I didn’t believe in his forgiveness because the nanny, who he considered his mother, always referred to his grandfather as extremely evil and now everything's okay with him? This movie taught us about the hypocrisy of those who are wealthy, the stigma of bearing a child as a single woman and the discrimination and prejudice in this world. If you’re not of the same social status you’re looked down on, if you don’t have money you’re looked down on, and if you’re of a different color you’re looked down on. People don’t care if you’re a good person, what matters to them is status because when that child grew up and became a doctor everyone was catering to him; that’s pretty sad and pathetic but it’s very true because we see it every day.Read full review
