Notes
Burtnett is best remembered for his years as resident bandleader at the swank Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. He started as a pianist and arranger for Art Hickman and later became director for Hickman's organization. Burtnett eventually formed his own group and took over the Biltmore Orchestra. This CD features Burtnett's commercial recordings from 1927 including his last two recordings in 1934 while at the Drake Hotel in Chicago. Also included are several vocals by the Biltmore Trio, who became such a rage that many other bands started the practice of using vocal trios, including Gus Arnheim at the Coconut Grove, who hired the Rhythm Boys to compete with his local rival.
