I have to say I enjoyed the book, loved the information given for those of us suffering from the evils of unhealthy bodies. The book does give you great suggestions and information for the everyday events that are not thought of when going through illness. The one and only one thing I did not like was the fact that we had to be reminded multiple times about how "blessed" the author is financially because of how much money Brett makes. Not all of us have millions to travel here and there to get treatment. Not everyone is "blessed" monetarily like that with millions and millions of dollars at hand. And, we know that if you have the money, you are able to get to any doctor you want. Those of us who are not "blessed" with millions have to be told by our insurance companies who and where we will be seen, and if we cannot come up with certain amounts of money, which the illness robs us of in one way or another, we cannot be seen by the top doctors in our area, or go across the country in private jets to one specialist after another. I do like the book and am keeping it for reference, as many places to email, write, and call are listed in there, which is much appreciated. I did write to the foundation of the author some time ago, and have never heard from them at all :( Oh well.Read full review
I found the book Don't Bet Against Me very inspirational. I am a breast cancer survivor of five years and wish I had read the book during my treatment process. I could relate to so much of the information written in the book. I am planning to pass on the book to a friend who is going through treatment right now and hope that she will do the same when she is finished with the book. Not only is there lots of pertinent information about treatment and the feelings an individual has, it also has information for the caretaker. I especially liked the bible texts that are in the back part of the book for references.!!!
I decided to purchase the book, because I am a HUGE Brett FAVRE fan and I admired the way Deanna has handled her life and her Cancer Treatment, by reading the book I learned more about Deanna and Brett. This book should be a MUST READ for all young women, so they will start "check-ups" every month, have Mammograms and do everything that is important. I know, that if by reading this book only one woman will do the monthly check-up it's well worth it, it also shows, that not only woman with a family background of Cancer can be affected by it and not only "older" women can get it. Thank you Deanna for writing the book.
Deanna Favre is such a class act and and the epitomy of a woman in my opinion - even though she would be the last to admit it. I have nothing but respect and admiration for her. Her booth interview by the announcers of Monday Night Football back in November '07 was one that endeared her to many and reinforced the case for just what kind of upstanding woman she is; including Mike Trico and the other announcers. I purchased this book primarily for my elderly mother as a gift, and of course my plans are to read it also. Although a good friend of mine had breast cancer, the topic was not so much the reason that I had purchased it, but because of Deanna's faith, and her strong and supportive nature, and the overall message that she conveys by just being the person that she is. I plan to follow up on this review once I have actually read the book, but I'm sure that the experience will only reinforce the love and respect felt for such a fine example of a woman.Read full review
The book was very well written, and it's so easy to see how much Deanna loves her family. It was also very evident how much religion means in her life. She relied on that faith when she was sick or when she lost a loved one, and it sustained her. It was nice to meet the woman behind Brett Favre and to learn about her and their family. It was a wonderful insight into their lives.
