Thought this was a good item and deal. Bought a total of (5) but there sure not instant read. A dial style thermometer would work the same and take the same amount of time to get a reading.

Useless for steaks!
I live at 500 ft above sea level so water boils at 211 degrees F. I tested the thermometer and it displayed a temperature of 217 degrees F. I wrote to the seller twice inquiring if there was a way to calibrate the thermometer and received only received basic instructions on how to turn it on. Since it is so far off it makes it useless for gauging how steaks are cooked. So NO I do NOT recommend this product. It is NO good as far as cooking steaks is concerned!

I’ve only used it once but it arrives at the actual temperature rather quickly. My first instant read thermometer wasn’t very instant. It opened in the celcius setting and took quite a while to reach the temp. This one opens in Fahrenheit and gets to the point.
