Was a nice book to get but if I would have known it was not a full cookbook I would not have brought it. It has a lot of reading to do before you get to any recipes. Very few recipes in this book to be in a cookbook area. It will go in my library where reading books are not in my kitchen where cookbooks are. Will probably read it adventurely, but not while I am just getting use to having Diabetes. It might be a good book for the way it is printed for someone else. It did not impress me at all.
The book is VERY GOOD for a beginner in researching diabetes. I have been working on being prediabetic for 3 years, I felt that the book put Diabetic information in an easy-to-understand format. Since I had received an advertisement for this book many months ago, I decided to buy it on ebay. Once I received the book, I tried to match the ad with the book and so many of the page numbers did not match up with the advertisement, I finally gave up. [Some one should inform the author or company sending out the advertisements.]
Four months ago I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. As it would happen, my daughter owned this book and immediately started me on this diet. For two weeks, you purchase and prepare just what they tell you to. After that, you can pick and choose from a pretty good variety. It was hard to shop for unfamiliar foods which were not all to my taste. However, my A1c results dropped from 10.5 (a walking Tootsie Roll Pop) to 7.7 in just 3 months. I only lost about 10 pounds but that was my fault. I found plenty of menu items that my whole family liked. When my daughter returned to Ghana where she does mission work, I needed my own copy so I bought this one on E-bay for a fraction of the price my daughter had paid. If you are willing to branch out and change your unhealthy habits to improve your health and get serious about it, I would recommend this book. If you want to improve your health by staying on the diet that ruined it, you will have to become more realistic before you can improve your health.Read full review
This book is excellent for anyone that is prediabetic or a diabetic. It tells how to keep your sugar level down by eating what foods and which foods to avoid. It has excellent information that you will not find in other places and has great recipes for keeping you in check. If you are a diabetic or a prediabetic, I highly recommend this book. You can't beat the prices...my sister-in-law is a diabetic and after seeing her book, I decided I had to have one. Do yourself a favor and check this book out. You will be glad you did.
I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE MY HUSBAND IS A DIABETIC WHICH WE CONTROL WITH DIET SO I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE HELPFUL. I LOVE THIS BOOK. EVERYONE COULD DO THEMSELVES A FAVOR, DIABETIC OR NOT, BY READING AND FOLLOWING THE DIABETIC WAY OF EATING. IT'S THE WAY TO STAY HEALTHY AND LIVE LONGER. I'D HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR EVERYONE WHO CAN READ. THERE IS A LOT OF USEFUL INFORMATION FOR US ALL. IT'A ALWAYS GOOD TO BE INFORMED ABOUT FUTURE PROBLEMS WHICH CAN POSSIBLY BE AVOIDED. GREAT BOOK!
