The receiver is easy to set up initially with Audyssey, but many other tweaks will need to be made before it really sounds good. It can be setup on your TV screen (which is the only way it should be done). The menus become lengthy and it is hard to remember where exactly you are in the setup process. You can configure Main Zone, Zone 2 and Zone 3, however the outputs for the other zones works only in Analog. For example all inputs you have setup for the Main Zone are HDMI or Digital (DVD, Satellite TV, Game Console ..etc.). When you setup the other zones you must run a secondary coax cable, example: If you want to listen to your Satellite Signal in Zone 2 (the Sat Receiver you set up in the Main Zone) you run one HDMI cable and one analog cable between the SAT Box and the back of the receiver. After that you need to turn on both, the HDMI and analog signal, on your Denon Receiver in the setup menu. I was hoping I could listen to sports programs with my outside speakers, it took awhile before I realized I needed a second cable. I had an older Denon Receiver before where I was able to listen to all my sources in the other zone (zone 2) without having to add another cable.Read full review

The AVR-X4200 is an excellent product...has enough power to run today's demanding speakers and the latest decoding modules, so movies sound awesome. The built-in WiFi means playing music from your phone is a piece of cake. I personally like to use my DVD/CD player for superior sound (I'm an audioholic snob), but when I want to just listen to a quick song, this can't be beat. Very customizable, I really don't see any advantage to getting the 6200 over this model, unless you absolutely need the power. A great bargain for a great product!

What Denon doesn't tell you is you need a separate amp to drive the rear speakers if you want to use the Dolby Atmos speakers. They don't know if the receiver will work if we use the amp to drive the Atmos enabled speakers. That was the only headache I had. The sound is good but does not pick up sounds my previous Marantz picked up. I am referring to the Master and Commander, Blue-ray, where at the start of the movie I heard the cracking of floors, the creaking of the ropes, and joints. With this receiver I don't hear those sounds. That's why I give it a 4 star.

Needed software update but then worked flawlessly. Great sound and connectivity via multiple options (eg. app, apple play , bluetooth). Since it has really all the latest features, price/performance on this used equipment is outstanding.

Sound fields are very well balanced, power is all their. Only only thing I'm finding hard to deal with is Music sound feilds wont work in 7.1 it will in Movie mode it wont in Pandora, Sirius or Internet Radio.
