Set up with 2 Bose 301's front and 2 Bose 301's surround. Bose center and Bose double cubes rear. Handles them great. The system can be complicated if you let it. The manual is complicated. After writing down the pages that are actually useful, I had maybe 10 out of 81. Just set the this up and then read the things it will do. If you try to read the manual first, you'll likely throw something. All in all it's my favorite over a 2015 Sony 125watt per channel and my Marantz stereo, 2 channel.

Unit arrived earlier than expected And packed well. Small cosmetic chip from plastic front panel but nothing serious. Operation seems fine from what I have tested thus far. Replacing an inexpensive Sony unit and sound quality already improved and have yet to do auto speaker tuning process. Manuals online at Denon.com. Some of the features require some work to access but most folks won’t need to go into the unit that far.

I love this receiver! I bought it used on eBay after my refurbished Pioneer died three days after I received it. I don't know how much it was used before since it was purchased used, but it works wonderfully. It has a handy usb port on the front so you can hook an iPod straight to it and control it with the remote or buttons on the receiver and you don't need to buy an expensive dock like you do for many other receivers. It shows the iPod data on the small display and on the connected TV. The TV interface is dated. It is just a black screen with white lettering. The Pioneer I had actually had graphics and showed the album art. None of this matters to me, it's still easy to use and being able to view settings on the screen is nice, It only took a few minutes to get everything set up correctly. It is a good looking unit. the Pioneer was shiny plastic which just looks tacky IMO. This has a curvy face with a matte finish the power button lights up with a green ring around it when the unit is on and the text light blue and is easy enough to read. (I only sit 7-8ft away) The unit sounds good. I haven't used all the decoders but they all seem to sound good the unit has plenty of power, I have never found out how loud it can get, but I have had the room shaking while getting close :) I have ran this receiver for probably 6-7 hours straight and never had it overheat, It was hot, but you could rest your hand on it and it wouldn't hurt you. It probably runs 20 degrees cooler than my old Sony. The only things I would add to this receiver would be a phono input, a network port, and maybe update the GUI. But all these can be had in a higher model so those aren't really downsides. Except the Pioneer I bought initially had networking and a better GUI for the same price, but the build quality of the Pioneer was obviously way lower. Look at other reviews of this Denon and compair them to the Pioneer VSX-1020-K. The newer version of this Denon, the AVR 1912 has AirPlay built in which if you don't have an airport express or apple TV I would go for the 1912. AirPlay is great! Also I'm sure they updated the GUI as wellRead full review
Truth be told, I am really not an AV connoisseur per se. This is not to say I don't appreciate good audio/video. Like any other guy, when I first switched over to High Def, I showed my wife and I got the "I don't see the difference" answer. When I switched from my Sony STRDH700 to the Denon AVR-1911, no other changes to my equipment, my wife walked in and, without any prompt from me, commented on how much more vibrant the picture was. I was tuned in to TLC on my Rogers cable at the time. I am not sure if TLC transmits in High Def, but we watch it enough that for my wife to notice a dramatic difference says something. When I think of an AV receiver, I think produces audio and switches video, but this receiver actually improves picture quality. The only negative thing I can say about this AV receiver thus far is the S-Video to HDMI converter does not work all that well. Feeding S-Video from the receiver to the TV through the video connector actually looks better. Lastly, as for the main reason I switched, the HD support and sound quality is awesome!!!Read full review
Purchased as a replacement for the same model I already owned as it was damaged. I am really happy that it worked just as good as the original. Will never spend money on a brand new receiver again.
