This unit was purchased to replace a Sony STR model receiver. The Sony lacked digital inputs, s-video, and composite video inputs. This unit has all of these although it would be nice if there were more optical inputs on the rear of the unit (2). When I received this unit used I plugged it in to my existing cheap sony and panasonic speakers, and I was immediately blown away by the clarity and lack of distortion. Although not the most powerful Denon on the market, this unit is a great home theater system. Mine is currently coupled with a Denon DVM-1804 5 disc DVD, using optical audio, a Directv satellite receiver, and a Sony Playstation 2, also using optical audio. In the DVD or Game inputs switching between Dolby Digital ES, and Dolby Digital Pro-Logic is smooth with no noticeable break. All digital sound modes are clear, and smooth. With my current Infinity speakers sound is crisp, with clear highs, warm mids, and deep bass. I highly recommend this receiver for anyone on a budget looking for good high-end sound, without paying an arm and a leg. The only downsides to this receiver are the lack of video upscaling or downscaling (S-video is only output as S-video, component as component) but aside from that this is a great receiver and great value for the money. (I paid about 60 dollars for mine)Read full review
All I mainly have to say is that I am glad to the seller that he/she wanted to get rid of it. It currently replaced my Denon DRA-550 which was made in the early 1980's and two months ago, the speaker input jacks blew out. The product works great!
I bought it to power audio from TV to surround sound etc. My previous amp was acting up due to old age. This amp was as advertised and came complete as described and works great. Peter Knox
