After having buying my first flat screen TV, I needed a speaker system. A friend told me about the Definitive Technology speaker bar and using soundbars for surround audio rather than satellite speakers. I began my ebay bidding, and my friend was spot on about this SSA product. This wall mounted speaker bar above (or below)the TV gives an incredible AV look to my living room decor. A very clean setup without having speakers on the ground or on stands. The mounting bracket is a little on the light duty side - but it is adequate for wall mounting. This Definitive sound bar is awesome. The aluminum tweeters produce an incredible clarity, and the dialogue reproduction is as "in person" as I have ever heard.Bass levels are not as strong as you may want- but thats why they invented subs. Definitive Technology has "definitely" got a winner with their SSA sound bar models. You cannot go wrong. I know because of the omg reaction I have gotten from friends.Read full review
If you're like me and already have an AVR but moved to a new home where running wires to 5 speakers isn't practical, this is the speaker for you. It's about the same width as my 42" LCD TV and looks great sitting in front of it. It's low-profile enough that it doesn't block the TV's IR sensor. The sound is pretty decent for what it is, and in the right conditions, the surround channels do a surprisingly nice job of emulating discrete speakers (this is especially audible in video games); mind you I'm migrating from a true 5.1 setup and I'm not disappointed. Before I connected my subwoofer, the 120 Hz roll-off was obvious, but hooking up my sub (Velodyne DPS-12) seamlessly filled in that gap. I also found that I had to bump up the center channel 1 or 2 dB to improve voice clarity. Setup was really easy, though beware that if you're using large gauge wires (I repurposed 12ga from my previous system), fitting them in the space between the terminals and the slide-on rear bracket (which acts as both a stand and a wallmount) is a bit challenging. Overall extremely happy with the $500 refurb. Much preferred this over a powered unit which does its own decoding (I'll leave that to my receiver, thank you).Read full review
Without having surrond speakers , this is the next best thing. Only drawback would be the lack of deep bass. All things considered this is a great product.
