Light Comedy that my wife and I have been trying to locate for a number of years. Meryl Streep and Albert Brooks are charming characters in light comedy .

I love the concept of this film and a lot could have been done to make it better. I bought this because I am a fan of Meryl Streep and have never heard of this film. Its very funny in a few parts, entertaining, but not a great film. Perhaps with a different leading man it could have been better, the chemistry between these two just wasn't there.

This is a great comedy about life after death. After death your life is judged to see if you have to go back to Earth or enter Heaven. The female lead (Meryl Streep) had done no wrong in her wonderful life while the male lead (Albert Brooks) did everything wrong, at least according to the prosecutor. This combined with a blustery lawyer (Rip Torn) makes for a memorable movie. I could not find this movie to check out or rent and I liked it so much that I decided to buy it. I've watched it probably 5 times in the month that I have had it, then I told my sister about the movie. Mistake. She also remembered it and wanted to see it. She's still watching it ! ! I may have to buy another one. That's OK with me. She is a great sister and that is an outstanding movie. Besides on judgement day, this may be one of the (few) things I can look back on with pride.Read full review
It's Daniel Miller's birthday -- and deathday. He finds himself in Judgment City, defending his life. What is the primary accusation brought against him? That he lived in fear. Will he be sent back for another round or will he be allowed to "move on" with Julia, his heroic newfound love. This movie is subtle but profound. It asks the big questions and suggests possible answers. Daniel, like all of us, is just trying to make a living in this old world. Enshrouded in ego, he uses the tools we all use to get by -- flattery, subterfuge, humor. But, like we all are, deep down he's scared, scared of what others will think of him. Scared to stick to his guns, to have an opinion and stand by it. What he comes to find out in Judgment City, as he defends his life, is that it's not our ego or what other people think of us that counts, it's how we treated others, how true we were to ourselves. In a nutshell, this is a movie worth watching -- 2 hours of your life that might matter, might give insight as to how we can do it better and when we leave find ourselves pleased when we must defend our lives.Read full review
We go to court in Judgement City! Albert Brooks wrote, starred in and directed this wonderful romantic comedy. First love story I have seen that happens after our hero dies! Rip Torn makes a wonderful "Big Brain" lawyer (Though he insists that this is not a trial. It is just a judgement of how we handled fear while we were on Earth. Merle Streep is the newly dead heroin. "Don't you just love it?" she asks when she is told she can eat ANYTHING she wants and all food there tastes incredible. She slurps up her long pasta and just seems to enjoy life..well enjoy the afterlife! Meanwhile Brooks' character is stressing himself over the life review (only 9 days of his life actually). This movie is fun, different and in my humble opinion a Must See. Now please press YES below. Thank youRead full review
