i really love historical romances and this one was great. the main character is essie sprecklemyer, a 34 year old spinster who loves riding her bicycle, helping her father run their oil company, teaching women how to shoot, designing a riding outfit for her bike, etc. she doesn't need a man to make her happy...or so she thinks! this has humor, realistic hardships/temptations/troubles/personalities. clean, but provoking. i have just finished reading all of deeanne gist's novels and CANNOT wait until her next one comes out. highly recommended, as i do all of her books.
Let's just say that I can't wait for Deeanne's next book!! Oh me goodness - this sequel to Courting Trouble was absolutely delightful in every way. It had everything I love - 1. history but not too nitty gritty, 2. romance that gradually gained speed!, 3. character accountability, 4. interesting setting, 5. spellbinding story line, 6. lots of old west traditions! and 7. intelligent adult Christian fiction - nothing milk toast. Just a wonderful book in every way. You MUST read if you love Christian Western Romance! Wish I had another to start reading right NOW! Blessings to you and yours. Joi - Realrelic
I really loved this book. I had read the first book in the series, and decided that I absolutely had to have the second book. It is not a predictable stereotype of a heroine from this historical era. She is an enigmatic, and lovable character, and I enjoyed spending some time with her in her world. I absolutely recommend this book to lovers of historical romances, Christian or otherwise. You will not be disappointed.
I enjoyed "Courting Trouble" and the character Essie Sprecklemeyer. I was happy to find there was a sequel! It was a wonderful tale of what can happen when you give more than your heart away in a relationship, only to have it end. The next time you fall in love, you won't have the "freedom to fall" so quickly. I was very happy to see Essie happy in the end, and enjoyed the story a lot.
...love the author's style of writing. She mixes real history in with her fiction to create a wonderful blend of realism. Also, love how the story of God's redemption is present in all her work.
